Hello all,
My new to me 2008 1125R arrived today. Battery was dead, would not take a charge. With a new battery in, no problems with a 1 hr ride, charging voltage seems fine. The bike had been in storage a year before the transport here, so I am not surprised that the bike needed a battery.

Have read somewhere that some 1125s had a battery drain issue, and that the 2009 instrument chip fixed this issue (and can give a gear indication).
Is there something to this, and is the chip available from the dealer?

Also, the bike did get sort of hot in town, close to 200F at 92 ambient. The fans came on, all seemed ok. Is this normal?
It ran about 180F on the road.

Also, the belt was a little off of the rear sheave. After the ride, the belt was more on, but maybe 1/8" off?

Temp is normal.

Belt is normal, they track back and forth.

Cluster draw is not a "chip" but a new cluster. If you don't get dead battery problems...I'd leave it be (if it ain't broke....).

yep all normal. Although an EBR ECM will help the temp come down quite a bit and it'll run better at lower RPM

welocme!
the 09's had electrical charging issues.
the 08's has an electrical parasitic draw that was attributed to the instrument cluster.
the newer clusters show the transmission gear in use.

Robt...go here ..it's a post way down on the forum ...it'll help answering new owner's questions...

like Danny said '08s have a voltage draw...turn the kill switch "off" to stop the IC's voltage drain....(I believe it's got to do with the security system in the IC's software)
...and like Tb said buy the race ECM - it's the best value of $$$ spent on the bike!
learn how to check the oil level and change the oil and filter, maybe flush the coolant (it only holds 3 qts....these bikes run hot- use some "Water Wetter/Coolant aid" on the refill) and check the wire harness directly below the Ign key switch - it's been known to cause erratic behavior of the beast( turning the bars "lock to lock" causes the wires to break at the switch)....the bike has a lot of sensors - the ECM likes a strong 12VDC...buy a battery tender and use it - buy a low cost volt meter and check battery voltage before you head out...and keep those battery connections tight...welcome, be safe and have fun.

Thanks, all!

The bike does have a power commander V, and was "supposed" to have been dyno tuned to match the (loud) HPE exhaust. I plan a trip to the dyno to verify AFR and operation. Am actually considering getting a stock exhaust to save my eardrums.

Will be changing the oil soon, cheap vs. new motor. The belt does seem to be tight, want to check tension on that soon.

Robert: many people do not care for the loudness of most of the after market slip- ons we have available to us but I have one solution. Check my (Bob_thompson)s post here:

"www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/718 222.html?1375896248"

It does require some fabrication to both systems but well worth it I do believe. I personally use a perforated cone type. Stay safe my friend and welcome to the best Buell/EBR site on the planet.

Went out last night for a good ride in the country. The bike ran very well, but a few little issues showed up.

1. In town in slow stop light traffic and 90F outdoor, bike close to 200, it wants to bog down (or shut down!) when starting from a complete stop. Have to give it more gas than normal.

2. Out in the country, when doing clutch in multiple downshifts from "speed" approaching a turn or stop, the engine shuts down. It did this twice, had to hit the starter to get the engine to run again. Did not do this every time, or if I did a single downshift. I am pretty good at rev matching, so un-coordinated RPM-gear selection is not the issue.

Would the EBR race ECM help with this?

Are you "quick blipping" your downshifts? When bringing the motor up from idle, you have to be a little slower getting the engine up to revs. I more or less hold the throttle open for downshifts instead of blipping.

Did you do a Throttle position relearn after replacing the battery?

Thanks again.

I did not do anything but stuff the battery in. The old one was pretty much dead as a doornail when the bike arrived.

I have ECM Spy and a cable for my X1, does it work on the 1125?

The cable will work, but the old free ECMspy is not compatible. You can download TunerPro for free and use that.

While it doesn't hurt to do a TPS reset, the ECM does not lose the setting from the battery being disconnected.

The first thing I would be looking at is the idle control, the IAC might not be opening the valve enough, starving the motor of air in those situations. Cleaning it out with carb cleaner can help.

The EBR Race ECM will help with many things, possibly this included, but you will want to get this fixed before swapping over.

Too cool! I picked up a new-to-me 08 1125r just yesterday. I have he stuttering problem as well, and am thinking about getting an ECM too.
