Had to bring up my forehead!! Make it thru 3 races and take myself out on my awning support-litterly knocked myself off my feet. Big thanks to Kevin drummer, stephen(general tso), Eric ashburn, for all your help this weekend. Stephen you have a great group of people supporting your racing career. Couldn't have met a better bunch of people. You had a great weekend yourself, how many first places???????? Got 5th in my first race-a Superbike, 2nd in the next 2 races. Dropped about 4 seconds off my best time on vir north. On all new suspension, it was like riding a completely new bike. Am definitely hooked on racing. |

Awesome! No pics? How did you end up setting up your suspension? I didn't catch what you ended up going with. |

Got home late, just now unloading the trailer. Man 2 practice sessions and 3 races I was fried!!! Way different than track days. Went with bpf upfront and the Showa from EBR in rear. Had some trouble shooting, somewhere along the line my front axle got mushroomed out on the Allen head side, this was the. Pulling the bottom of the fork into the tire causing major stickton in the fork. Took about an hour to grind the end smooth and clean out the fork hole. Way better when fixed. Kevin drummer suggested/demanded that the front sag should be 40 and rear at 30, so ended up at 41 front and 27 rear. Bike felt great/ handled very nice, great tire wear. Set comp/rebound at dead middle. Couldn't have gotten it right with out Stephen, tobc racing crew, jeremey hupp(jhupdog) and Kevin-big thanks again to everyone who helped straighten out my issues. Still have some dialing in todo. |

That's a lot of sag on those forks, and odd to have such a delta front to rear.. How much do you weigh? How far down on them are you getting on the brakes? |

It was an awesome weekend at the track and watching the 1125's on the track together was impressive. Congrats Eric on your impressive showing for your first race weekend. By the 3rd race you looked like you had really settled in were really moving. I also want to say Congrats to Steve. You had a great two days at the track. You took home quite a few 1st & 2nd place trophies. Like Eric said meeting Steve, Kevin and Eric was a pleasure and being able to talk to them about their experience with the bike was very informative. Thanks Hope you guys don't mind but here's a pic of the two Buells

Neat! I'm the only 1125r in the CMRA, so why don't you guys move to Texas and get some more of these things around here! |

I'm about 180 in gear. have about 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the fork. He expressed that it's key to lengthen the bike, and have it extremely soft. He's also a big believer in the 21 degree rake, and changing the head bearings. |

I'll agree with the soft settings, in particular for the really bumpy tracks. I also *like* a lot of fork dive on the brakes as it helps the bike steer, but keeps it more stable on the gas. Since you aren't very close to the fork bottoms, you may also find you are better off with softer front spring rates and a little less sag. I am close to the same weight, and I run a 550 rear, and I forget what front spring rates. On the teaching bike I have the BPF and the Buell shock which is a 575. That bike also weighs a LOT more than my race bike, but even then I can really feel how much stiffer the suspension is, and the forks in particular make it more difficult to get the bike around the track. If you set the bike up "tall", it helps with rear grip and with wheelbase, yes. But, I had trouble with the tall set-ups and being comfortable with higher lean angles using them. That's one of the big advantages of the chain drive I've discovered -- getting a little extra wheelbase on the bike. On the 21-degree rake: that's stock. Are you using the collets? That's a 22.5 degree rake, I believe. I could never find any of them -- that's a trick part that's very hard to come by. (Message edited by jdugger on August 05, 2013) |

Big Piston Forks. A number of them were made as part of the race parts program for Buell Racing. EBR resells what's left of them for a pretty amazing price. They are a nice choice for track day riders. http://www.erikbuellracing.com/store/parts-accesso ries/suspension/showa-racing-big-piston-forks.html |

Yeah, thought I had the degrees wrong. No I don't have the cups, he said that they had them on Eric ashburns bike and with the chain drive they added almost 2" to wheel base length. Kinda mad, I had asked Michael r at EBR about what spring and be kinda assured me that stock would work. First day using them, so definitely have to play around with them. |

> Kinda mad, I had asked Michael r at EBR Don't be. The springs are "in range". There's this idea out there that fork springs and sag are a science, that they are set by rider weight, and that's that. Total bullshit. If you were really good on the brakes, or at a braking oriented track, you might have NEEDED firmer springs. At a high-speed track with newer pavement, you may have had so much traction you could literally bottom out the suspension with cornering load. It's all a function of rider weight, track conditions, set-up preferences, and so on. The springs in those BPFs might not be perfect for you on that day at your skill level, but they are in-range. Even though I find the BPFs a little stiff for me, if I back the preload out and really use the brake hard, they work. They aren't my AK-GAS forks, and it would be nice to have the rate a little less, yes, but then again, when I rode that bike at Circuit of Americas the traction was so good and the track so smooth I actually added preload and damping that day because I was bottoming the bike in turn 2. ... as soon as I got it home to the bumpy messes we race on, I couldn't *believe* how stiff it was! All that set-up for COTA had to come back out... |

You guys remember that DigDug is a 'merican badazz, and your settings will be different since you all are "mere mortals." |

If you are changing more than one thing at a time, it can take a while to get all the new parts dialed in. |

It was great to have other 1125Rs in the paddock. Very much appreciated Jhuppdog's generosity in lending me his clutch cover guard after I low-sided and burned through mine. |
