Are there any on here in the So Cal area that meet up and ride or anything? I just bought an 08 1125R and would like to ride with some other ones if they're in the area. Also, what dealer does anyone use, or do you do your own maintenance? Thanks! |

Yup, join the SCAB group on meetup. Monthly rides and there are quite a few with 1125Rs. Depending on how far you like to travel I frequent the Inland Empire and high desert area, occasionally making it to malibu. As far as maintenance, I do all my own as I have a hard time trusting any dealers. Others may have good recommendations on that subject. Welcome to the 1125, it's a great ride. |

I also frequent the high desert, inland empire, and some of the beach areas. Enjoy the 1125! |

Dealer close to you.... http://www.biggsh-d.com/ last time I was in there they were "Buell Friendly" If you're new to the area...check out the map on the home page of this club's web site... http://www.bmwocsd.org/ it'll give you an idea of the many great roads we have down here... motorcyclists are fiercely independent types (or don't want to wait for the next SCAB ride), and want to ride with some others (....even if they don't ride a Buell)on any wk end suggest you check out: a) Dudley's Bakery (Santa Ysabel) b) Mother's ( Top of Palomar Mountain) c) The town of "Julian" d) in the spring/fall/winter take Montezuma Valley Road (S22) down to Borrego Springs...(too hot in the summer) and have lunch at CarLee's near Christmas Circle. e) if you're a die hard HD type...the "Hideout Saloon" near Lake Henshaw is the place to go. Want a Dyno tune, the latest tires, or just to hang out where the local racer's hang out go here: http://www.leescycle.com/ f) if you want to try a track day check out Jason Pridmore's Star School...he has dates at Chuckwalla valley in the spring and fall....(if you can afford two days away from your post - take the two day school) http://www.starmotorcycle.com/ hope this helps (Message edited by nuts4mc on July 16, 2013) |

Great! Thanks for the recommendations. I live in Oceanside and work in miramar. This isn't my first buell, actually 3rd. My last one was an 07 XB12R. I haven't had a bike in 3 years tho and now I'm loving the 1125r. It's awesome. I was just wondering if any of you DIY'rs had the necessary tools to do all the services, and how hard is it typically to do... |

since you're new to the 1125...might want to scroll down the forum to this post: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/525759.html?1372481269 one of the most important items you must do is turn the bike off with the kill switch (do it all the time) and then turn off the key - the alarm sys on the '08s will drain the battery... the only fix is an '09 instr. cluster...you may want to chk the age of the battery and if needed buy a new one. "search" function on this forum is challenging, but there are many gems of info...use it to research the following issues: known problems that require tools 1) clutch weep - buy the kit from EBR racing...there's a u tube video i believe on how to R&R the old one - I wouldn't change it till you see the "weep" (Slave cylinder down by your right foot) 2) Stator nut (wrong loctite used by the OEM)...need a crank locking tool - or borrow one from a fellow badwebber...or buy one from EBRracing...need a big torque wrench for re-assembly. 3) Buy a new Voltage Regulator (CE605) ...see this thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/704732.html?1359988061 4) the "grounds" on the wire harness are "weak" and can cause issues. 5) the ign. switch has a bad habit of self destructing ( wire harness routing and fairing stay "clearance" ( or lack of)) cause the switch to stop working. 6) wheel bearings - the original OEMs kinda fall apart...see here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/651540.html Rotating the engine has many possibilities on how to do it - some prefer to remove the frame and use an engine stand - some use the rafter's in their garage to suspend the frame while they work on the rotated motor....a front wheel chock and rear stand is very helpful when working on any bike. Ride and enjoy the bike - learn how to check the oil level and buy a cheap voltmeter (Wal Mart or Harbor Freight/just past the main gate on Miramar) to keep an eye on battery voltage and if it's being charged....your biggest costs should be Gas and tires! hope this helps (Message edited by nuts4mc on July 17, 2013) |

I have an '08 R also. Located in Orange County, CA. Frequently ride to Palomar Mountain area, Malibu, Angeles Crest Hwy, Hwy 33, and points north and south. I'm planning on hitting Palomar Mountain this Sunday. If you're interested in joining, let me know. |

I've been gone for a while because of deployments, again. I ride a black 1125CR from La Mesa to Miramar. Ride it every day but Friday. Rogue is a great guy, I've ridden with him before. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Shoot me a message if you wanna ride sometime. |

Awesome! Thanks for the great advice and help.. Is there a certain mileage to rotate the engine at? I haven't seen any issues with the slave cyl, and the battery was just replaced. I have a battery tender that I use everytime I pull into the garage. No other noticeable things are wrong with it. It has an EBR ECM, and I de-noided it and put the resistor in there. It has an HMF pipe. It runs super smooth. I have the service manual for it as well. I'd like to get up and ride sometime fellow Buellers. Is there a "regular" spot or anything? A bike night anywhere? |

oil & Filter change at 6K miles (Chk the manual...I do mine more like every 6 months/2K miles)...there are multiple oil drain plugs/internal oil filter. engine rotation @ valve chk = 12K miles (again Chk the manual) Bike nite = 3rd Thursday at any Cycle Gear San Marcos is closet/on the way home 4 u http://www.yelp.com/biz/cycle-gear-san-marcos or the one near the base (Kearny Mesa - off the 163 near I-15) http://www.yelp.com/biz/cycle-gear-san-diego meetup info/clubs http://www.meetup.com/SanDiegoKD/events/120300962/ almost forgot - one more maintenance suggestion....it doesn't freeze down here - you may want to drain your coolant and run straight water (distilled) with some water wetter - the water/water wetter mix works better than water/glycol mix...the cooling system only holds 3 qts...keep an eye on the level!(under Rt Pod/twist grip side)...summer has arrived! hope this helps |

Dhays1775, what's up dude! Welcome back to the USA. This Sunday dude. Heading towards your neck of the woods. Text me if you're up for it. If not, then next time. Been riding regularly but this is my first time back to Palomar in a long while. Take care man. |

Thanks Rogue! I'll shoot you a text to work out the details. It was a long eight month deployment, that's all I can say. Hahahaha Myself and a few guys were planning on riding Palomar on Sunday. Sounds like we need to meet up! Gonna be me, a guy on a 2006 Sportster 883, another guy on a 2007 Kawasaki ZZR 600, and I'm still working on having my neighbor join us on his 2002 Honda RC-51. Buellfirebolt31, you are more than welcome to join us! I would love to have a few 1125's tearing up the mountain! You work at the C-130 squadron, right? Hell, look me up on global and shoot me an email. Check my profile for the info. That's how I found where you work. lol edit: I have the crank locking tool if you ever happen to need it. Dhays1775, me and another rider plan to be up in Palomar Mountain's Mothers Kitchen between 9:30 AM to 10AM. From there we will be riding down towards Julian (avoiding the Desert--too hot), and then further south via Hwy 79 to Interstate 8. I will be on my Red, White, & Blue '07 VFR800 this time as my buddy rides a VFR. My 1125R needs new tires right now. I hope we can somehow hook up as we will both be on the same mountain around the same time. LOL! |

I didn't but as we were passing through the town of Julian it looked like it was going to rain. So we just kept on going. It was cloudy most of the day. I took this picture of my bike and my buddy's VFR800 at a trail head along Hwy 79, just past Lake Cuyamaca.

Hahahahaha!!!! By the time our group rode south of Julian, the bottom fell out of the sky and we got drenched. We had to go 25-30 mph down the 79. It was sad. Lol By the time we got on the I-8, it started to clear up. But we stayed cold as hell the rest of the way. |

The 08 do not have the stator problems like the 09 do. I put 1/2 the torque on front and rear wheel axles the bearings seem to last longer. I ask EBR at Mid Ohio they use a lot less torque to on there race bikes to. |
