Went to go for a ride this morning, started her up to let her warm up, hopped on to get going and as soon as I set the bars square with the frame it died and the cluster went dark. Luckily I had seen a couple old threads where this was discussed so I assumed this was the cause. Sure enough when I got the lower portion of the switch removed and separated the halves one of the wires had broken right in two. The only thing that was holding it together was one tiny piece of insulation. Soldered it back together and I was off. Thanks for the heads up guys! And for any of you not wanting to tackle the job yourself know that HD discontinued the lower switch part number by itself and now force you to buy the entire assembly for twice the price. |

While you're used to digging in there, take a Dremel to the fairing stay. If you don't you'll see this again soon. Z

Ya, I've seen your pictures in old threads. I just couldn't bring myself to take a Dremel to it. I did rebundle the wires in a different configuration that gave me another inch or two up the column, so crossing my fingers that that will be sufficient. If not I'll resort to the Dremel. |
