Anyone have a lead on where to get the best frame insulation for the R? Getting pretty warm here in NV (105F) and the R isnt liking the fuel temp so much. Thanks! |

American Sportbike has some stick on insulation for about $50. I use it on the inside of my frame. It helps a bit. |

Thanks guys! Rogue, is that the stuff from American Sportbike or other? Heard that Twin Motorcyles has the original Buell stuff. Anyone got a word on that? Same stuff or better? |

It is the original American Sportbike insulation. Use whatever is available to you because it helps! |

I got my own insulation. It came from a hardware store and was thick. Easy to cut and adhere. Ever since I did it I have not had one problem with fuel overheating, surging, etc., like I did previously. I didn't feel like waiting for it to get shipped so that's why I went that route. |

How hard is it to install this without rotating the motor? |

Don't know if you could press it on properly without rotating the motor. Best time to do it is when you are doing the valve clearance check. |

Flat file. Something to hang on to press it on and it doesn't slip. |

I also assume we gota cut out the shape of it to match the frame? |

I would think something like this could be used to slip down between the frame and airbox/engine, pulled outward from top and bottom simultaneously, and slid along the frame to press the insulation against the frame without need to rotate the engine. You may need more beads/spheres. (Message edited by noobuel on July 06, 2013) |

I used a yardstick. First I put some rubbing alcohol on a thin rag onto the yardstick to slip down between the engine and the frame to clean it so the insulation will adhere properly. Then I cut to size as best as I could, slid the insulation into place and pressed against it with the yardstick. I have a 2009 so the right side of the inner frame was already insulated but I was able to do a good part of the left side of the frame which was not insulated and it has helped more with the heat. The stuff I put in was thicker than the American Sportbike stuff and even that wasn't that tough. I think I just moved some of the wiring around and then took a ruler and used it to apply pressure on the insulation after I slid it into place. The anal bead idea might be tougher than you think. |

the line would have to be very long so you could hold it above and under the frame pulling on both ends of the line. it does seem like a good idea if it will fit in there tho. then at least it will push on the side and bottom of the insulation. reaper, do you think the thicker stuff keeps it cooler than the American Sport Bike's stuff? |

Are you on the EBR ECU? That cools things down a lot, though I never did solve fuel boiling until I moved somewhere lower. I just stopped caring. |

I couldn't say because I haven't been able to make a comparison with a similar bike in the same heat as mine. I will say this though. Before I insulated it I couldn't ride around town in 80+ weather without it surging and chugging and it was very aggravating. Since the insulation install I can ride in 90+ sweating balls and it runs smooth. I have actually felt the frame get hotter than it did in the past, because I can ride in hotter days now, and still no issues. I think what I installed had an air pocket barrier internally between the layers. |

fair enough. do you run the EBR race ecm? are you saying the frame gets hotter after the insulation and the fuel is not effected? that seems odd to me. I live in the florida keys and it gets hot here, not as hot as the highway to miami tho, and I would like to keep it as cool as possible. |

Right now I can't run the EBR ECM as there is an air/fuel issue. I have been running the stock for some time now. What I'm saying is that I can now run the bike in even hotter weather than before, to the point where I can feel the frame getting hotter, but the bike continues to run good. The hottest day I took it for a ride on was 96 F and I remember the IAT being 132 F at some points. No problems. |

The frame will get hotter no matter what, with or without insulation. The insulation will keep it reasonable compared to no insulation. You will see improvement all around while using it. |

i see. well i guess when i install the Dean Adams pipe, EBR ECM and K&N filter I will have to do the insulation too. |

I'm not sure I would even insulate the front of the frame if I was to do it a 2nd time around. The air box intake nozzle presses up against that and sucks in the cool outside air so no need to do that part. |
