I noticed that the new rotor nut torque recommendation is 295ft/lbs. Previously it was 207 - 214ft/lbs. My new EBR rotor was put on by the local HD technician because of my lack of mechanical prowess and I'm certain he used the service manual values. I'm curious if anyone knows the reasoning behind the new 295ft/lbs value. Does it only apply to the EBR rotor or does it also apply to the OEM one on the bikes? It's interesting if the modifications EBR perform to the rotors would be the reason for the higher value? I'm a little concerned about still having my new rotor torqued to the previous values. |

295 ft lbs is the current OEM spec, it was changed somewhere between when the 09 and 2010 service manuals were printed. Buell upped the spec and if I remember right, changed the type of loctite due to the nut coming loose. If the nut comes loose, the cup can start flopping around damaging things. |

Thanks Froggy. An interesting predicament that I need to think about. I think first step is to confirm what was written in the service manual that the HD tech used. |

Got an email back from EBR. You're right, it was changed for the 2010 model year. You'd think HD would've issued a service bulletin or a recall to get the earlier models up to the same requirement. HD is really pissing me off these days. |

Not to defend HD, but I *suspect* they were over-torqued (relative to the original spec, correct relative to the updated spec) from the factory. So it wasn't until you messed with them that the spec in the service manual became an issue. So no recall, but for sure a service bulletin. |

There are several accounts, including on my CR where the nut came loose on bone stock bikes that never had the stator cover opened. I'm pretty sure it was a service bulletin, I will have to try and dig around for it. I know they did a bulletin for similar on the XB years ago with their crank nut coming loose. |

It was a bulletin. I believe I have a copy at home as well. "Recall" is an NHTSA safety concern, like jeep fuel tanks. "Bulletins" are voluntary factory updates and notices to their customers. While a loose stator nut sucks...its not a safety concern as far as the NHTSA is concerned. But because it does suck...the factory issued the bulletin. |

Sorry, I should have paid more attention to the forum I was in. On the tubers, this was a common problem after the primary was removed. If you followed the factory torque spec for that bolt, it was too low. But I don't recall any instances of it happening before somebody had that nut off. On the 1125 I do recall it happening to people that hadn't touched anything (including you Froggy). So proceed with the HD hating after all. We need different backgrounds on the 1125 board or something... |

Ratbuell, if you can still find the copy of the service bulletin, please send it my way. I can present it to the HD tech and maybe not have to pay for an extra service. |

No dice here, sorry... Froggy, if you have it can you forward it to me? I'll toss it in my files... |

I'm looking but I'm coming up with nothing, I only found the XB one from years ago. |

Yeah I have the update harness bulletin and the charging system output spec change...but no nut torque bulletin. Sorry... |

No worries. Thanks anyway. Either way, they should've gotten it at the dealership. Who know's maybe they did torque it to the correct value. I'll pass by this weekend and have a chat with the tech and see what he did. |

Finally passed by the HD dealership and had a chat with the tech. Torqued to 295lbs. According to the service bulletin. So all's good! Thanks for the help guys. |
