If like me you seldom visit other parts of this site you may miss this supertwins final between nigel (battyone) and joe (little but quick) shakespeare county raceway monday 6th may
The other day I bumped into an older gentleman who claimed to race in his younger years. To my surprise, he claimed to have a bike producing 175 HP at the rear wheel using a 1200cc sportster motor.
Of course, I immediately questioned this claim.
He swore he was telling the truth.
So I asked about the motor's reliability in such a state of tune.
He indicated he had never had a motor issue.
I was shocked.
... and then he added "yes, we always took it apart after every pass and inspected everything."
Still running stock motors. The only reliability issue either of us have had is valve shims. Hopefully new revlimiter kill settings will make sure that is never a problem again.
But I had to find some more hp to compete with Joe. He has 150lb weight advantage. He's half my size and has a couple of extra years of development on his bike.
crowley - watch the staging lights in the video here is how they are, top to bottom: prestage stage yellow yellow yellow green red
the GENTLEMANS way is to prestage and then not stage until both are prestaged, as most organizations have time limits (say, 7 seconds once one person has staged) by double staging (prestaging and staging before other person has even staged) it will sort of mess with your head a bit and rush the person some. Many races will DQ for this Its just a jerk move really
Ok thanks, I'll have to find out what staging and prestaging means. In the vintage racing, tarmac, pre '60mx and most recently, grasstrack, that I participate in, the start grid is all about messing with your fellow racers head
adam even with my laymans knowledge of drag racing, i can tell you this after the burnout you break the first beam, this is pre stage, when both are in pre stage you nudge forward to engage stage, this is where the mind games can come in, once you are both in stage the lights will then go as stated above see the green, your too slow, no doubt someone will be along to better inform you. are you going to the nmm on sunday adam?
Ah, I get it now When I did the Ramsey Sprint, I wondered what all the lights were about. I was expecting a bloke to come out and drop a flag
Sorry, I won't be catching up with you at the NMM on Sunday, I'm off to get my Fantic muddy in a Twinshock Trial Have a good day there, and say Hi to Steve for me
