I was looking at my manual, and it says to torque the rotor to 214 ft lbs (290 nm).

Why is everyone saying to torque to 300?

After a few months on the market, Buell realized the rotor nut wasn't tight enough and the torque was bumped up to 295 ft-lbs.
08 manual says 214, dealers got an errata to bump up to 295 and use red Loctite 272 vs. green 648.
09 & 10 manuals have the current specs.

What Zac said, except it is the 2010 manual that is the correct spec, not the 08/09 manuals. The old spec allowed the nut to come loose in some situations, resulting in damage.

Is there anyway to know if your bike needs to be checked by the serial number? I have an 08 with 14K miles and wondering if I need to have mine checked.

Not by s/n, but the rotors with the "too low" torque will have green loctite on the nut, instead of red.

So I wasted 50 bucks on green Locktite?

I should be fine with the green?

Pgh, check it and bring to the higher torque. it is a just in case issue.

I'd keep the green for other projects and use the correct (red) for this project.

No sense taking a chance when you don't have to...and the resulting damage will cost MUCH more than $50 to fix if you use the green and things come loose.

Craigsmoney - if you got the green #648, it is still used on the sprag clutch bolts.
Sprag is bolted to the rotor.

Well I torqued it to 300 and used green Locktite. I never race the thing and usually ride around 130km/h. I think I should be alright.

I just got new rear rotor bolts, should I wire brush them and use red loctite?

I believe they already have some on them. Do the threads look grey-ish? (If I remember correctly, which is suspect these days)

Are you talking about the rear brake rotor? This thread is about the charging rotor inside the motor.
