I was trying to install the new EBR rotor but I could not get it to slide all the way on. (Yes, I was aligning the missing tooth.) I removed the sprag clutch and tried to install it onto the crank, without the rotor, and the sprag clutch roller bearings would not fit around the race (could be wrong name). Had anyone else had this problem? Would I possibly need to freeze the race to shrink it? |

do you mean trying to get the rollers of the sprang clutch onto the rotor? If so, it just takes time. Took me awhile of jiggling it and spinning it at the same time for it to fall back in place. |

oh and it kinda has to fall in place all at once. |

I was able to get the sprag clutch mounted on the rotor but the sprag clutch roller bearings would not fit over the (I'm calling it a) race, shown in the bottom right of this picture (thanks for pic Toysgarage). So I removed the sprag from the rotor and the sprag still wouldn't fit onto the race. Any Ideas? thanks.

Looks like that piece is blocking the sprang form falling into place? try rotating the crankshaft as it looks like it has moved? There are two holes that you are able to lock the crankshaft with the locking tool. iirc... the gears underneath the sprangclutch have two notch marks on the upper left gear and the main gear on the crankshaft and those two should match up when you lock the crankshaft.

Also going over this thread would be useful. It sure helped me out a lot when I was installing mine http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/680421.html?1337216914 |

Thanks for the input guys. I was able to get the sprag clutch to fit over the race last night. The garage was 50 degrees colder but I doubt that small temp change would make a difference. Regardless, I spun the sprag and it eventually slid on. Because I had trouble mounting the rotor with sprag installed, I may leave the sprag installed on the crank and then attach the rotor. Not sure. This is progress though. Thanks for your help. Here is a picture of the sprag on the race.

it still looks like you have the crankshaft locked in the wrong position. I did the same mistake at first if you look at the link i provided....Because of the missing tooth for the rotor, it might be a lot more difficult to get the sprang clutch on the rotor like that. |

Bartone, point taken. I will line up the timing marks and then try. I appreciate your input. |

Bartone, for whatever reason, lining up the timing marks did seem to help. The sprag clutch fit into the EBR rotor tighter than the factory rotor. I had to heat the back of the EBR rotor to fit the sprag clutch into it all the way. Anyway, job done and charging at 14v (The lowest I have seen after 50 miles was 13.8v). Thanks for all the help! |
