Normally I'd put this in the stator thread but I want everyone to read it and give me there input . I have a 2008 1125r with a 2010 motor due to the can chain guides failing. I had about 4500 miles on the new motor before putting it up for winter. About a week before putting it up for the winter it started to make more noise than normal around the stator then I got a voltage error. It seems like its the stator and that's what I want to check. I know tons of people on here have done it so I have some questions for you. I know I need a cam locking tool to put the rotor back on. Do I also have to have the tool to take the rotor off so I can get a look at the stator? I don't want to buy the tool unless I know I need it. Also dose anyone have a tool they want to loan? I'm from Ohio. I know my R has the 2010 harness in it but I'm pretty sure there is no relay and the voltage regulator is still a 2008. Will I need a new Voltage regulator or should I get a new one? What about the relay? Thanks for any information, |

1) It's a crankshaft locking tool, not camshaft. 2)Yes it's needed to take off the ROTOR. 3) The stator is attached in the cover so you can just remove the cover to look at it. 4)Any noise would be the nut holding the rotor working loose. So it's the rotor that you are thinking of, not the stator. 5)If you still have the 08 motor you might want to check into getting the rotor from that drilled for the oil hole by EBR and putting the 08 cover with the 08 stator and rotor on the '10 motor. That's basically what the limited time $900 "fix" was. Those 08 stators don't burn out like the 09/10. Less output but enough as long as you don't run extra electric accessories |

Ya I don't know why I said cam tool I knew it was for the crank. I wish I had the 08 motor still Harley took it when I had the 2010 installed. I tried to get them to put the 08 stator and cover on the 2010 motor but they refused. I did not know you could pull the stator with the rotor on so that will make things a little easier. Thanks for the info |

Russman - Enjoy that sightglass. I'm jealous. The regulator stayed the same 2008- 2010. Since you have a 2010 motor, the cam chain guides are good, the rotor needs help from EBR. If you decide to pull the Ignition Cover, go to a hardware store and get some bolts.. 6mm x 30 or 40 will do IIRC. Cut the heads off, get 4-6 bolts, and round or point the ends. Alignment studs make removing and re-installing much easier(possible) as the magnets are quite strong.
If your stator fails, there are several shops that have done good rewinds but def get the EBR rotor mod. Per an interview w/ Erik, it drops stator temps a bunch, 40 or 50 degrees F IIRC. Oh yeah, a 2008 stator/rotor will fit inside a 2010 cover if you want to go there. Zack |

Zac- I have 5 extra stock torx ignition cover bolts. They are only about 35mm long. I was going to cut the heads off those and make pointed ends for guides. So maybe I will only have half that length sticking out to use for guides. Will the stock bolts be long enough to use for guides or do I need to buy longer ones? thanks Mort |

When I had the voltage error I replaced the relay with a good one. No more issues for almost a year. |

Mort: the bolts must protrude thru far enough to allow removal so they should be longer than stock, by a bit. |

Mort - Forgot yesterday, sorry. Looks like the bolts I used were 80mm to start. They are about 75mm now. Z |
