Last year my charging system went out on my 09 1125CR and I couldn't afford to fix it till now. I'm not very familiar with electrical components so is there a way to reliably decide what components are bad, or should I just replace it all? I used the search to see if there was an overall guide, but I couldn't find anything. I read Baf's post and it sounds like I may need a VR as well? Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm ready to get back on the road! |

The VR may very well be fine. I don't know of any good way of testing it without a good stator, but chances are the VR is fine. |

Okay thank you Baf. Would you say my best bet is to just tear it apart and see what I need? How long does it generally take to get the stator rewound/ get the rotor/tool from EBR? What is the part of the process that will take the most waiting? |

I rewound my own stator, and it was a pain. If you send it away, I'd probably plan on a week or two, but whoever you send it to can better estimate that. Shipments from EBR only take 2 or 3 days to make it (I live in NY), assuming the stuff is in stock. I'd recommend taking the stator out and sending that out for rewinding at the same time you order the rotor/tool/other stuff. Then you can get the rotor in and pull the upgrade harness out while you wait. Then when the stator comes, just reinstall that and you should be back in business. Might as well do an oil/filter change too. You'll need to take the muffler off and drain all the oil to use the crank locking tool anyhow. (Message edited by baf on March 05, 2013) |
