A friend found out he is going blind in his left eye. We are wondering if he will be able to ride. Anyone know anybody else who just has vision in the right eye and rides?

If you want to do something bad enough, nothing can hold you back to doing it safely.

It's a problem with depth perception.
You learn to adjust by paying more attention to size to judge distance.

My mom's blind in her left eye, been driving with no wrecks/tickets for 65+ years(she's 81).

A few months ago, on a ride I kept blowing my braking points. I wan't fatigued or anything that would affect judgement. I just had trouble with the depth perception.

A trip to the doctor found a problem with field of view in my right eye from some sort of retina problem.

Riding at normal to moderate pace is not a problem. Chasing my buddies on a hot ride is.

Yeh thats kind of what I was thinking. Puttin around is probably ok but flying into a curve with no depth perception is probably goig to end up being a bad deal.

It won't be a problem when they get used to it ......... my mate doesn't like the dark so much but his bike does have crap lights and i have other two eyed friends who don't like riding in the dark as well.

There was a Rose Bowl Quarterback in the 60's that had one eye, didn't hurt his game.

There is a fellow badwebber in Tucson, goes by 1eyeart that has had only one eye since he was a child.
he rides the crap out of what ever he is on. I've seen him dragging floorboards of a heritage softail through the mountain curves of the devils highway in Arizona.
I assume it's mind over matter as he seems to not even notice his handicap...

It 'can' be done but with no binocular depth perception and a significantly limited field of view...might want your friend to master driving a car like that first, in the interests of his safety.
