My clutch has been slipping for some time, on hard take off's. It make's a funny noise like a can opener is going bad.

If this noise is a true slip, should I replace just the clutches or do I need to replace the steels and springs too?

Getting in that deep should I buy EBR's revised clutch actuator kit

The way I tell I have a slip is the motor will rev too freely under higher gears when at WOT.

If you do a lot of hard starts, 17k is a lot of miles. We need to measure the clutch pack -- basically hold the friction and steel plates together and measure with a caliper. Should measure at least 46mm thick.

If you buy the Barnett pack, you get steels and springs with it, so that may be an option for you.

The noise is unusual, and you need to inspect. The bearing on the top pressure plate is known to go bad, so you need to pull that and spin the plate on your finger and feel for anything but perfect smoothness. I've got spares of those I'll not use if you need to replace -- let me know.

Also, inspect the spindle carefully -- this is the thing that is threaded for the spherical nut and pulls against the pressure plate -- it can wear funny at the base. I keep those as spares, too, but they are precious so you will have to find your own supply ; )

The EBR part is a good part for the slave cyl, and if you are in there, it doesn't hurt. The other will fail eventually. Personally, I don't think the phrase "that deep" applies to this job at all. From practice, I can get into the clutch and swap the whole thing in about 20 minutes *trackside*. It's an easy job, and clear some thought went into the motor's design for racers in this regard.
