OK...I'm sure I could use 'search' and find this but it's early and I'm not fully-functioning yet...I'm going to change the bulb temp in my CR. I put in a 6000K and it's too blue. I'm trying to remember - is 4500K the approximate color of OEM lights, a nice pure white? Now that the days are shortening and my commute is more and more dark...I want as much light out of this thing as I can get : )

5k color is borderline turning just a tinge of blue, I have them on my R, low only at 35 watts each. 4500k would be a better "white" choice for visible spectrum lighting at night, but it's a bit crappy in fog. Ever wonder why fog lamps are yellow/amber?

Color Temp Color Description

3000K Yellow Emits a yellow light. Often used in place of halogen fog lamps.

4300K White Emits a white light with a hint of yellow that mimics the light coming from the sun. This is the color of choice for most car manufactures and can be found equipped on a wide range of vehicles. Used if you want the most light output and the best performance.

6000K Pure White Emits a pure white light with a very subtle hint of blue, this is the most popular color choice for aftermarket HID installs.

8000K Light Blue Emits a more blue light than 6000K but is not defined as true blue because it has a hint of white.

10,000K Blue Emits a dark blue light output that is close to violet in the color spectrum. Visibility is significantly decreased.

12,000K Violet Emits a violet/purple light. This color has the least light output and should not be used for nighttime driving.

Slight correction -

3200K is a warm (yellow biased) light typical of incandescent (halogen) bulbs. Indoor motion picture film is calibrated to look normal when shooting under incandescent lighting. Shot outdoors it would look very blue.

5600K is considered Daylight. Outdoor motion picture film is calibrated to look normal when shooting outdoors or under 5600K HID lighting. Shot under incandescents it would look very orange.

Since the eye is most sensitive to the green in RGB. A balance between 3200K and 5600k will yield the most efficient light to the eye.

I have 4500k 55w Hids and they are fantastic.

I love my 3k HID's (55w DDM kit). Yellow for fog and added visibility. Stock high beams are unnecessary and don't add enough to really help.

Thanks everyone. Yellows do weird things to my contacts, and blues - while they reflect nicely off signs and lines - are crap for lighting non-reflectives. At least they are to me. On the Uly I can live with the 6000s because I have boatloads of aux lighting; the CR won't support that, at least not in winter with heated grips and jacket going. Looks like the DDM 4500s are getting ordered tonight : )
