Whelp shop hollered, said they got my stator in (only took a week! Impressive, last time my stator died it took over a MONTH.) Unfortunately the ROTOR is also toast, they said. Under warranty (ESP) but I will be going in on my day off (this wednesday probably) to take some pics. Those of you who are seeking pictures and info on failures chime in with what you need pics of specifically. I'm curious how the rotor was deemed a write-off. Hoping for some good catastrophe pics! Anyways, let me know what you want to see so when I go in I have a good idea of what to snap pics of if ya'll are still compiling images of this stuff. |

Push them to fit the ebr modified rotor for you if they won't it would pay you to get it done yourself if they are willing to wait while their new rotor gets exchanged then let them fit the modified one . |

Confused The rotor is a big chunk'o machined steel. Unless your stator came apart and scratched it up, how is it toasted? |

I'll give em a holler and see what they say. Seems like a few dealers tend to be "EHHHHH" about anything aftermarket. This is my first time with this dealer, I bet anything my previous dealer (Paradise HD in Beaverton, OR) would've allowed it but here in Casper this is the only local shop I've got. So far they've been great, however! Even gave me a ride home when I couldn't get in touch with anyone the day I dropped the bike off. And sprint, I agree, I don't see how a rotor could be damaged, but thats what I wanted to go see. Don't really care though, its under warranty anyways! |

perhaps a loose rotor nut? |

the Rotor is a MAGNETIZED piece of steel. Lose that magnetism and it no longer excites the windings of the stator... |

does heat kill magnets? |

I think heat does kill magnets but don't quote me on that. Upon further consideration, loss of magnetization would be a cause for replacement but how can you even measure something like that? I mean, its not exactly something I can imagine a bike shop having the tools or means to test something like that. Probably loose rotor nut or it got damaged in disassembly. We will see wednesday. I'm really curious to see that stator. TRYING to convince them to replace my harness too, the yellow wires are browning. Its cooked. |

the harness is $50, if they won't replace it its cheap and an easy swap imo. The only thing that's semi difficult to install is the control wire to the ecm, but that won't get cooked. |

GOt a picture of the stator I'll post up later. Its completely black. save one or two arms which are slightly less black and more of a brown. The inner ring with the holes and stuff is melted and warped. Clarified on the rotor issue. They said it got so hot it melted and began to separate the two rotor cups or whatever the hell. The inner and outer layers separated, basically. |
