I have never really sat down to watch any of the youtube videos of the Middle East wars. But, a side clip of the an exhaust video I was watching linked to a video that was about ambushes in Afghanistan. After watching that I clicked on one that said British soldier shot in face while in combat in Afghanistan. Anyway, the soldier was shot in the face during a gun fight and luckily for him, it was only a flesh wound that required a few stitches. But, at the time, he didn't know how bad it was. For all he knew, he could have had a hole in his face that was life threatening or debilitating. At the end of the video, it was disclosed that the soldier jumped back into his patrol outfit within 48 hours of this last combat experience. As I watched and listened, I realized that their soldiers put it all on the line just like ours (Americans) do and their bravery is just superhuman. I know this isn't a Buell thread but I just felt compelled to express my appreciation for our forces. God Bless them all. They are truly hero's to me. |

The Britt's are great allies. They are always there with us in the fight. There are a few other countries out there that do the same. |

Exactly NoBuell, and then Obama goes and talks about our greatest ally being France.... (which, of course, they were at one time, American Revolution) |

Don't forget the Australians. They are one of our staunchest allies in the Pacific Rim (along w/Japan). |

if you get a chance, see if you can find copies of a BBC series called 'Our War'. filmed by individual soldiers mostly on helmet cams throughout their tours on operations in Afghanistan. It really is a true fly on the wall documentary and is amazing that it wasn't more censored before showing (as I think it would have been in the US maybe). Each episode follows a different battalian on operations in Helmand province, showing both good times and the (very) bad, and even as an ex-serviceman I was amazed at how these guys keep going for months in these conditions. very gritty coverage of some very brave young men. |

The Britt's are great allies. They are always there with us in the fight. There are a few other countries out there that do the same. Pretty shaky history there. First big fight, Britain was the enemy and the colonies won. Next couple of fights, Britain/Canada was the enemy and America lost. Next bunch, America and Britain fight their own wars and ignore each other for the most part. First big blow, America helps Britain quite late in the game. Second big blow, thanks to the Japanese militarists, America decides to help Britain instead of the Nazis. It was a tough decision. Korea: okay, that was working together although American history ignores anybody else being there. Vietnam: several nations' troops were there. They left. "Nuff said. UN, NATO: okay, sort of working together Bosnia. Same in Iraq until the stupid policy decision to move British troops to the US positions. At that time the Black Watch blogs could post details like the Highland Charge with bayonets. Afghanistan in the Middle East???? What?? How can you respect what the armed forces are doing if you don't even know where they are? |

Are you suggesting the US actually decided to help Britain instead of the Nazis? That's total BS. The US had to prepare to fight the Japanese, which was a pretty powerful enemy at the time so they could not help Britain sooner. There was no "decision" to choose between the Nazis and Britain. The Nazis were the big enemy in Europe. They had plans to conquer Europe and Russia and create an empire that would later fight the US. Anyway, history is history. What matters is now. And now, the Brits, Aussies, Canadians, Japan, Singapore, Denmark, and a few others are out there taking the fight to the Taliban and Al Qaeda. After recent current events, we know how much hatred there is out there against us. All they want is an excuse to kill us. It will take another 100 years before you can get rid of that kind of hatred and lust for blood. |

Apparently history is not history… a certain amount of revisionism is to be expected. And it comes down to "they" versus "us". "We" need to be sure who "they" are. Are you sure you can trust "them", the politicians we don't seem to trust anywhere else on these threads, to tell us who "they" are? |

rogue - I agree with you to a point...The real decision was between the Nazis and Russians Truman once stated, “If we see that Germany is winning we ought to help Russia and if Russia is winning we ought to help Germany, and that way let them kill as many as possible, although I don't want to see Hitler victorious under any circumstances.” No, he didnt want a Nazi controlled Europe, but he also was very against Communist Russia. |
