+1 Packing lasts me about 5000 miles. I'm trying the one from americansportbike.com this time and I think it will last longer. |

Its the screen make sure you replace it with the packing pillow they are inexpensive and easy to do. |

I have replaced packing in dirtbikes and other sportbikes with stainless steel wool in the sponge section at supermarkets. Make sure you get the stainless kind if you go this route, as the non stainless will rust quickly. |

the kit from americansportbike is much better than the barker replacement. also, a tip: remove the rivets that hold the barkers label plate on before cramming the pillow down into the tube. this avoids any tearing of the pillow. once the canister is back together re-rivet the label plate. I emailed Barker because I noticed my barkers didn't sound right and saw packing coming out through the seams. They said no reason to replace the screen. even with 24K miles on the exhaust with never repacking it. I'll see if I can find the email |

Yeah but when the screen is rattlling its loose and it's a pressure fit so for $10.00 IMO it's better to replace it. |

I remember reading that the muffler's two caps receive the screen. one cap (front?) is flared to secure the flared end of the screen. if you reverse the screen you will have made a new flared end. the old flare now on the skinny cap side might just rattle. |

Sorry it took me awhile to get back. Ive since rmvd the tip of both of our mufflers mine has pillow packing stuffed around the screen and all welds are solid. His can has only the baffle. NO PACKING at all and the screen is just laying in the can the welds are broke. Fairly certain thats the issue. I'm guess the welds broke and the rattling around over time broke down the packing and it flowed out the exhaust |
