Hello everyone! Recently my FMF slip on literally exploded at the end of the pipe leaving me with no exhaust I sent it in but FMF refuses to replace the exhaust not because of improper use but its 6 weeks out of warranty! anyway I have the mid pipe and Im thinking I want something custom put on. Anything I should look for as far as mufflers go? like certain specs for best performance? Thanks for any info

George, you don't specify a year Buell but as you can see in my profile I'm old school and shortly after I got my 1125R in 2008 I started working on fabricating my own "system" from the two head pipes back.

It was one of the first and is very similar to Keda's first system. I fabricated a two into one adapter that goes into a 2 1/4" collector and then through a straight thru fiberglass muffler and exits just behind the engine (again look at the profile picture). With some flattening of the 3" muffler it fits completely under the engine to clear my full fairing. At first it was pretty loud so I added a perforated cone insert that does not, at all, restrict the flow but quieted it nicely to an acceptable sound.

With an EBR race ECM the performance is considerably better and quite good; as good as any commercial one out there. I gave EBR's Michael Richter the complete sizes of my "system" and he programmed the ECM specifically for it. I AM well pleased and have been for 4 years.

To your specific question. You can get these smaller, 3"x15" long mufflers from places like Jegs, Summit and J.C.Whitney for about $30.00. I painted my whole system high heat flat black because its hidden by the fairing anyways. I also insulated it with exhaust pipe wrap to keep heat from the fairing and increase velocity thru it.

Good luck with your project. Bob

If you are looking to fabricate your own exhaust then Bob's advice may be of interest. However, if you don't have the means to fabricate your own then I suggest KEDA exhausts. I have the RT2 and along with the EBR ecm it works very well. Either way you go, good luck.

I agree Paul, and will add that Deans systems are some of the best out there, he stands behind his stuff, and its some of the best looking too. Dean and I have had a few discussions together here on BadWeb before he started his business and I admire his efforts.

thanks bob, I have been contemplating doing a similar system but wasn't sure how it would perform.

being that I already have the mid pipe the easiest solution would be a universal muffler I just wasn't sure if theres a certain style of muffler I should look for as far as the internals of the muffler.

Depends on what you're looking to accomplish. Loud? Go straight through. You need to measure the pipe itself (OD) so you know what to even look for. Most likely, it's a 2" OD pipe if it's a FMF slipon.

Want something better? I can probably hook you up.

Case length is a little long, but you could probably make it work. I'd change the angle of the outlet as well.
