Riding today the check engine light came on along with the battery light. It didnt stay on long but is the beginning of a stator problem?? Also after that few miles down the road the bike lost all power three times for a split sec. Same problem?? 4500 miles. |

Hard to say for sure, it is a bit of a yes/no answer. A stator failure can cause your symptoms, but it isn't the only cause. A failing voltage regulator, a bad battery, even loose battery terminals can do the same. I recommend you start performing diagnostics on your stator and battery to see if you can narrow it down. |

Check AC output of the stator (unplug from VR) while idling/running above idle. That seems to be a pretty definitive test. Check all three phases. You want them all to be roughly equal in voltage. IIRC, you want to see 15-20VAC at idle and somewhere around 40-60VAC at 4500RPM. Check the service manual for the exact numbers, I'm just going from memory here. |

Baf, the revised output is 35-45 volts from one leg to another at 3000 RPMs. I have the service "Buelletin" that Al sent me. Shoot me a PM if you want it. (p.s. I couldn't figure out how to upload it on here) |
