I bought this 2009 1125CR with 7400 miles on it a month ago. I found an small oil leak the other day on the stator side cover. I installed a new gasket with no problems or leaks and all was good for a week. I started the bike yesterday and got 2 min. into my ride and the gauge cluster backlighting went out and it said charging, electrical error or something like that. So i turned the bike off let it sit for 20 seconds or so and restarted with a reading of 17 volts on the Batt. restarted again and it slowly went down to normal. Got home and let it sit for an 1-2hrs took it out again and it did the same thing but now both headlights burned out and the voltage was now reading 16 or so. Did another restart and went back down to 13.8 after that?!?! It has been starting weird like one cylinder misses till i give it some gas. Backfires every now and then. I have checked the groungs, fuses and wires and there seems to be no problems there. It has a EBR ECU, pipe and a few other things that probably have nothing to do with this issue. I am trying to love this bike but i have had a ton of little problems that are making me crazy. I have had a tone of sportbikes and never so many issues. It is by far my favorite bike yet but are all these grimlins normal? Any ideas or answers would be very helpful because i am ready to drive this think off a cliff.......Thank you for your help. |

No no, have patience. There are solutions for these problems. The high voltage, blown out headlights, dark IC with "SYSTEM VOLTAGE" and erratic running are likely symptoms of a Voltage Regulator going bad. My bike, '09R, put about 9000 miles on it before it exhibited the same symptoms. One thing that contributes to this problem is running without the dealer installed Charging System Upgrade which installs an ECM controlled relay between the Stator and Voltage Regulator. This relay functions to limit the current output of the Alternator (Stator) so that the stator does not overheat under certain driving conditions. So when running without the relay, the Voltage Regulator is supposed be able to handle all the current that the Stator puts out, but that is a lot of current to be dealt with (approx 500+ watts) which means a lot of heat to dissipate. Eventually, I guess, the VR succumbs to this heat and starts malfunctioning. |

It has the relay in it. Did you replace it with a stock VR or an aftermarket one? |

What fuse do you have in the box? according to the last tech I took it in for warranty, he said it takes a 15 amp fuse, i had a 30 in there. I never changed the fuses so I was like- Just leave the 30 in |

This recently happened to me as well. No blown headlights but still. Had a Compufire VR in it and just put in the factory one. All is good now. |

It had a 15amp fuse but it did not blow the fuse! Strange I thought....... I am not sure if I should do a stock unit or aftermarket, any input? |

The stock for now and change the $10 relay in the harness upgrade it may be sticking and takes 2 seconds to change. |
