when i first looked at the title for this thread, i didn't notice the decimal point. I thought it said "$18,800 Aprilia Stator." for a minute there, I thought we didn't have it so bad... |

If they made stators for BRP Spyder and Rotax V-twins, we might have something there. The Spyder 400 watt ones look remarkably similar to the 2008 1125 ones although I don't have any measurements to say how close they might be. |

at the risk of stating the obvious, if it's one of those 18-pole stators, it's NOT gonna work with your 09/10 rotor. |

our stators are way overpriced though. |

There are several aftermarket suppliers of Aprilia stators. As far as I can tell they are all 18 pole. Here's another one for $139. |

Why would a 18 pole stator not work in place of a 12 pole stator if the ID and OD were equal to the 12 pole unit? |

could you switch to a aprilia rotor and have a 18 pole work? having trouble finding one though. Sold through Aprilia only? |

Sounds like the original 08 charging system to me - maybe you could get it to work with a 2008 rotor from our bikes. |

There are two ways to think of this: 1. Rotax and HD are dumb, so they make everything the same size, so everything is interchangeable and you can buy HD parts from someone other than HD. 2. Rotax and HD are smart, and they make the HD contract products to a specification that is unique, so that HD has a monopoly on the supply chain. Which do you think is HD's business model? |

http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/ 655082.html?1319323825 A repost of my own: http://www.motorsports-network.com/buell/firebolt.htm In the article they say, "All major components of the Helicon engine are unique to Buell and developed specifically for the Buell 1125R, although a few components, such as the stator and various fasteners, are used in other BRP-Rotax products." This leads me to presume that the very same stator (and hopefully the rotor) is use by Aprilia or some other Rotax powered recreational machine. The trick is to find which. If we could source a suitable 18 pole stator and rotor from other Rotax applications, the absence of an H-D part number should sharply decrease the cost of an 08 retrofit. Anyone have the resources, or know someone that does, to dig into the BRP-Rotax tech data and see what fits what?} EDIT - fixed link (Message edited by alaskacr on June 26, 2012) |

Good luck finding a substitute. The first thing that you need to look at are the core dimensions for the BRP-rotax stators. Looking at the rewind site's info, I don't think they're the same size, or that they have the same mounting hole config. I'd be happy to be proven wrong on that, but bear this in mind: they're designed to bolt into an ignition cover that has BUELL cast into it. the other BRP-rotax stuff doesn't have Buell cast into the ignition cover. It's unique. |

Someone should just find a chinese vendor and provide the specs probably buy 10 for the price of 1 |

you might have to buy 10 to make the numbers work. if they want 10,000 units for a minimum order, that's more stators than there are bikes on the road today. |

I'd be very surprised it the minimums were all that large. How is the main stator arm piece made? Is that a cast piece? |

the core is laminated. individual layers are probably plasma cut. |

could be die-cut. |

thanks. Now I can go on a ride and not worry it's going to cost a grand. Or have to rewind my own. |

I emailed Electrosport.com to see if they had anything or have plans to make something for the Buell and this is the reply I got a reply back. Their stators are around $140 range. I am trying to locate a stator to rewind as a spare or I might just send it to them.
quote:Info - ElectroSport info@electrosport.com Hmmm, we have never really looked into the Buell line, but what you're saying makes sense. You wouldnt happen to have a 1125R or CR bad/old stator around that I could get from you would you? I'm curious to see if it matches up with any of these stators I currently have, or have plans to have in the near future. Cravacor - did you try Rick's? I just mailed my stator to them yesterday. I've heard good reviews on the rewind. |

Jimmyb, I emailed Rick but never heard back from him. I would definitely like to get my stator rewound by them if they have had good results, as well as have the cooling port drilled in my rotor by E B R. I see in your profile you live in Hartland. My dad grew up in Nashotah and graduated from Hartland High in 1960, my grandmother used to live on Hill Street, last house on the right headed up the hill, little yellow stucco place. |

Wow small world! I live on Hwy. C on Okauchee lake. Let me know if you ever get back this way. I dont think EBR will drill the hole in your existing rotor. They will swap out and give you $250 back. So still will cost you $200 for a small hole but everything I've heard is it fixes the problem I've talked to multiple people who have done that with a rewound stator and essentially has fixed the problem. I called Rick's yesterday and just mailed stator with request. Said they will call if there are questions, but they have a specific pricing for Buell rewinds. see link. http://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/proddetail.php ?prod=20-B112H&pmc=MDlCdWUxMTI1Q1I= Has a 1 yr warranty too. Sure seems like a better option than new stator through HD for around $600... (Message edited by jimmyb152 on August 21, 2012) |

Jimmyb - hope that you could give us some input on your first impression, when you have the stator back. H-D Sweden believes that i´am willing to pay 1750$ for a stator |
