I recently went to look at a very nice 1125r near me. The bike had some modifications including, EBR ecm tuned to the Jardin exhaust and a rear eliminator setup, new stator and new wheel bearings. The bike sounds good except for a chatter noise coming from the crank case. It sounded to me somewhat like the noise you get from a dry slipper clutch but not as pronounced. When I pulled in the clutch lever nothing changed, so that made me think its not a clutch related noise but more engine related. I read some previous threads about noises in these bikes and I'm kinda getting mixed opinions.

What do yall think? I don't want to buy it and then have catastrophic failure in the crankcase later.

if you use the search function on this area of the forum, you can find info like this link:

the rotor nut can come loose-the type of loctite/torque requirement can cause the failure.
easy to check - are there metal filings in the drain pan when you change the oil?
since you haven't bought the bike - you may want to start it up and use the screw driver in the ear approach (like a doctor's steth-o-scope) to listen to the noises.
it appears like the previous owner has taken it to the dealer for service - does he have any of the service records? - it may be your best advice...
if you're looking for a "different" sport bike and enjoy the twisties - it's a fun bike!

I'm not gonna know the answer to the filing's in the drain pan.

It's been a few days since I heard it, but I seem to remember as you are sitting on the bike the noise coming from the left side crankcase more pronounced than the right.

The owner is aware of the noise and says its done it as long as he has had it.

I think the bike only has ~4600 miles on it and 2 people have owned it.

Is there any kind of warranty or anything still on these from HD?

Mine is pretty noisy. And it makes different noises when cold than it does when hot. Always has and I've got over 36k miles on it. Weird that they replaced the stator on an 08. That would make me a little suspicious of the stator nut.

The timing chain is kinda noisy on the 08-09. Thats why they updated the tensioner in 2010. It gets louder as the oil level goes down.If it bothers you the 2010 tensioner fits in the 08-09s
