Just bought an 09 with 12,000 miles. The bike runs great but the rear brake is very weak. The previous owner had it checked at the Harley dealer and they said that was normal. I find that hard to believe. Right now the bike decelerates faster if I just let off the throttle than if I use the rear brake with the clutch engaged. The pads have wear left on them. I'm thinking the pads are either glazed or they are the wrong pads for the bike. Any suggestions? Thanks, Ray | ||

They were correct, weak rear brake is pretty normal. Though, deglazing and some decent fluid (and a good deep cleaning of the caliper) can only help. | ||

Use it, the rear brake is weak if you don't use it enough. Once you burn through whatever crap is on the pads and disk, it will work fine. | ||

Sport bikes depend on their front brakes, the rear brake is usefully for settling the suspension and low speed action only, really If done correctly, you'd have your rear end so light that any application of the rear brake would lock the wheel Check it, but don't expect much. You could almost remove it and be fine (though not legal) | ||
