Ok so the motor is back together and in the bike is on the EBR truck. We thought we weren't going to make it, but we got a last minute go. Thanks to all who contributed. We wouldn't be going without your help. Thanks to Shorai for stpping up again. If there is anyone in the Atlanta area who could let us borrow an EasyUp Thursday - Sunday, that would be very helpful. Ours were sent back to L.A. by mistake. |

Another painful and infuriating weekend. I cannot express how devastating it is to not make it out of practice for the second race in a row. I don't know that we can recover from this. Need some time to recoup and reevaluate. |

Don't let yourself be dissuaded Rob. You guys can get it done! I know its been a treacherous road for you all but God only gives us those things that we can handle. You can work through this, there are always other options. We just have to look in different places sometimes. Anyway, keep your head up Rob. You are due for some good luck. |

Costs so much flippin money to play with the big boys and costs even more heart when you can't even grid up at green flag time :-( I've got more heart to put in. At this point I won't quit I refuse to. |

I totally empathize with you Rob. There's certainly nothing wrong with cutting some more teeth locally to regain your winning mojo. Then there are the Laguna Seca and Willow Springs national AMA Pro SBK events. When is the next race on the big course at Willow? |

Thanks for the encouraging words. However a repeat of Daytona was about our worst nightmare come true. Shawn has spent money of his own that he doesn't have to spend. Our sponsors are backing away. Or confidence level is 0. You can't imagine how heartbreaking it is to see so many racers come up to Shawn and ask "What happend?', and then respond, "really?... again?!. It's demoralizing to say the least. it's the first time i've heard "retire" come from Shawn. When you are in the pits and see the huge semis and the backup bikes and spare motors, it crystallizes just how high the odds are stacked against a backyard team with one bike and no spare motor. So even if we are somehow able to do Infinion, we are way behind the 8 ball having had 0 seat time and 0 setup time at an AMA race pace. When you see how profound the difference is between the the bikes that are perfectly dialed in and those that are not, it is clear that setup is essential to the successful union of rider skill and machine power. I do not want to tarnish Shawn's reputation by putting him in a situation where he cannot perform at the level to which he is capable. It's true that we might be able to do some club racing, but that's expensive too and there is no guaranty that we won't encounter the same problem. Also with the top riders off to AMA, Shawn would win virtually every race he entered. Sponsors want AMA exposure as well so we would be on our own. But all that said, the idea of having to quit (do to no fault of our own) before even getting into a race, is sickening. I fear that we will be haunted by the specter of "what if" forever. Sometimes it takes more courage to stop, than to continue. So after I do the RA accounting today, I'll give Shawn a call to discuss the possibilities. The bike is still at Road Atlanta today being examined. It goes on the EBR truck tomorrow, which is headed for Infinion. I guess we will see where we go from there. |

At the expense of this motorcycle, I'd be so far up Erik's can, I would be able to predict his next meal. Racing or not, there is no excuse for popping 2 engines in a row. You did not pay for a 125 hero, you payed for a race bike with lights. Make him get right with you. |

I just kicked another (meager) paypal sponsorship contribution to: sponsor@crotchrocket.tv Please don't take it as carrying any obligation for future activity... it's to support you working your way out of the hole you are already in. I'm with you. At this point, it would be insane to continue. And insane to quit. So all I can offer is some petty cash that will help (just a little) either way. |

I asked some generalized questions in this one, and got a disappointing non-response response: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/676581.html While I have no right to pry into anyone's private matters, the grass roots nature of the privateer team has me very interested. The fact that nobody is willing to talk about anything gives me serious pause. |

01fxdx ~ his next meal.. Me too! LOL Timebandit ~ I can only guess that the 'no spare motor' means the 2nd motor blew up. 01fxdx seemed to think the same thing... |

No offense to Rob or Shawn, who are part of an epic adventure here... But call Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, or Ducati, or BMW and say "my motor blew up in last weeks AMA Superbike race, and I want you to fix it under warranty" and see how hard they laugh... I don't know what help RodRob is getting from EBR, it's none of my business. I'd bet $$$ that EBR is treating RodRob better than any other manufacturer would. And whatever they are doing, it would NOT be appropriate to talk about it on a public forum. Goodwill support is just that, is on a case by case basis, and is a private matter between customer and supplier. That's not to say that this isn't a devastating event for Crotchrocket.tv, and for Shawn. And that's not to say it's not a real disappointment to fans that really want to see the 1190 excel in every outing. Just keep things in perspective... To race at this level you need to be prepared to fill a 50 gallon drum with hundred dollar bills, set it on fire, and feed it an engine a weekend for most of the season. Oh, and lets say a brand new race prepped 1190RS motor is $15,000. If 300 people from this site kick in $50 through a paypal gift to sponsor@crotchrocket.tv, ***we*** can buy Shawn and Rob a new motor. If you are morally outraged at the injustice of this all, then $50 out of your own pocket to make things right ought to be nothing to you. That's just the beginning of the teams expenses, not the end, but I'm sure it would help. (Make that 299 people...) |
