Stock front rotor was starting to chatter a little, so i purchased the replacement rotor on EBR's website.
It's a little different, it's bigger and thicker (stock is 5mm thick and 36mm wide. This one is 6mm thich and 40mm wide). There's a groove machined along the outer diameter, i assume to provide more surface area for better heat exchange/cooling. It appears to eliminate the "floating rotor" effect, which is kinda wierd. also, if you don't know how to clean your caliper pistons, watch this video - it makes a healthy difference in your stopping power! you should clean your pistons at least every time you change your pads. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csLVVDA5YXk |

Did you use the EBR mounting hardware kit, or just stick with the OEM hardware? Thanks for the vid. |

Notice any difference in braking from the larger rotor? |

Daggar, i used the EBR, you want to replace your hardware any time you break the bolts loose. that's the book answer anyway, and i stick with it. the EBR hardware comes with a parts diagram with some basic instructions. Fio, My front brake is noticeably more responsive now, but i think it's mainly due to new parts and clean pistons. The wider rotor may make a little difference though, who knows. |

Which pads did you go with? |

I like the way it looks. How many miles do you have on the bike/warped rotor? How many miles are we seeing out of pads as well? |

That is the one place you don't want to skimp on re-used parts. The EBR kit is better than stock, too!. (I'm running same set-up w/2015 pads - first shake-down this weekend!) |

i just used the EBC pads from American Sport Bike. I love American Sport Bike, great folks to work with. i bought the bike with 4k (miles), it had the slightest chatter, and - holy crap i've put 4,000 miles on it in two months! even at 8,000, it's a slight-to-mild warp, but i'm picky with my baby. |

I'd recommend getting the 2015 pads from EBR. I just swapped out a set of relatively new ebc pads (700 miles?) and rotor for the new setup from EBR. HUGE difference, much better feel, even with the stock master cylinder. |

2015 - EBR site says "race only" |

i think that means, with those installed, you are required by DOT regulations to RACE EVERYWHERE YOU GO!!! |

"Warped" rotors are seldom that, but usually spots or areas of the rotor that are contaminated and cause the jerky stopping or chatter. A through sanding then cleaning usually solves the problem. Lots of reasons to replace rotors, but actual "warping" is rare. |

cycledoc, i'm gonna have to disagree. i was an HD tech for four years and i can't tell you how many times a customers bike would have that "warped" feel in the brake lever. We'd put a dial indicator on the rotor and spin the wheel. I think the factory spec for warpage was 8 thousandths?? and every time a rotor "felt" warped, the dial indicator confirmed that it actually was. |

I just had mine replaced (stock) late last year and didn't ride it much after that. Just started again within the last couple of months and with the ebc hh pads, I got a noticeable grinding/pulsing feel early on. Just did the change to the new stuff on Friday night for the weekend riding. I used the 2015 race pads (what was suggested to me based on my ride style) and it was a very good recommendation. Supposedly they wear like iron and throw out little dust, we'll see. Brake feel was vastly improved and what I had on there to begin with was not that worn. |

Torqued - did you ever try sanding/cleaning? My XB had terrible jerky braking, so I finally bought a used rotor on ebay. When I pulled my rotor I found no warping(?) Sanding/ cleaning fixed my rotor; now I have a spare. Later, I bought an 1125r w/10k which also had jerky brake syndrome. Sanding/cleaning in place resulted in nice, smooth braking... And, check the "service" section in May 2012 Cycle World. (Message edited by cycledoc59 on April 10, 2012) (Message edited by cycledoc59 on April 10, 2012) |
