Replacing my stator and rotor with the EBR kit in the morning (I hope) forgot to order the crankshaft locking tool... its out of stock anyway so dead end there. Any substitutes? harley dealership isnt an option tried working with all 3 of the locals and developed a new level of hatred for the company. Any advice would be appreciated |

I removed and installed mine (scroll down to Rotor Modification) without the locking tool. I used my cordless impact wrench with 300 ft-lbs maximum torque and the rear wheel off the ground. |

As soon as EBR started offering the low-output charging system I realized that the locking tools were going to be in short supply, so I bought one before I needed it. If EBR doesn't have them, you could try buying one from Twin Motorcycles. Another option would be to DIY one. There are threads on the forum that show how to fabricate one using a hardened steel rod and an M12 bolt. IMO you really do need to lock the crank, even if you use air to take off the rotor nut -- because you need to put the rotor nut back on, and limit it to the proper torque. There's no way I'd try to use air to put it on, with or without a locking tool. |
