I installed a new Ballistic Evo2 lithium ion battery yesterday. What do you guy's think of these new types of batteries? It seems like when you hit the starter the cranking comes a little slow at first but does start the motor. Is this normal with the lithium ion? I was offered this battery at a pretty good price. The dealer said they last twice as long and it came with a 3 yr. warranty. |

very dependant on temp. also from what ive been able to descern most of them ship with a less than 100% charge. as teh battery heats up it makes more power to a point. |

"It seems like when you hit the starter the cranking comes a little slow at first but does start the motor. Is this normal with the lithium ion?" Yes - I have heard this from the rep at Shorai batteries, maker of the new Lithium Iron dedicated motor sports batteries (not made from power tool cells). They spin a little slow at first, but the starting action forces the battery to warm and they gain more starting power. The battery they have for the 1125 Buells is much lighter than the stock lead-acid battery; I plan to get one of these batteries for tmy 1125R when the stock battery goes south. http://www.shoraipower.com/ http://www.shoraipower.com/t-faq.aspx (Message edited by squish on March 31, 2012) |

The Ballistic are Lithium Iron Polymer like the Shorais. But what squish said is true, they take a little longer to wake up than a lead acid battery |

I recall someone with authority on the Li-Fe batts saying that before one presses the start button, let the bike sit for a few seconds (a minute?) in Ignition Mode with headlights on, then punch the button. This warms up the batt slightly to give better starting action especially if ambient temps are really low. |

I've got a Ballistic battery in my CR. It took me a little while to actually trust the battery, but I have nothing bad to say about it. On cold mornings, it takes a couple tries to fire up, but that's all. When cold, it starts to turn up then stops. Wait 10 seconds, slowly turns over. Wait 15 seconds, fires up like it was ready the whole time. I've got the 12 cell and it's pretty awesome. When it's not below 45*, fires right up. Worth every penny and weighs less than two pounds. |

I put a Shorai in my XB12R track bike, works like a champ, and being 9 lbs lighter, which equals about 2hp (need all I can get) it is a win win situation. |

These batteries would NOT be good if you were being chased by Zombies (or equivalent creatures) and live in a cold climate. Just saying.....LOL! |

Forgot to mention on the Shorai battery: they are much less expensive than the EBR race battery that is made from power tool cells. The Shorai battery is a dedicated motor sports battery with more reserve capacity than the EBR battery and is a relatively very light battery too. |
