my buell is a 2008r and i have fitted a spare 2009cr wiring loom but removed all road going wiring lights,indicators,break light and switches ,lamber sensors ,horn ,and on fitting my refreshed motor got ready for the big start but turn the switch no sweep of the clocks and theft error comes up tryed afew things but to no hope im thinking the cr 09 loom is no the same any thoughts on this | ||

had to replace loom back to stock no more problem ,had a word with buell tech at dealers went over stuff removed from loom and we carn't understand what was the problem waiting for answer from buell | ||

i've seen it go to theft error on a race loom when the body harness to engine harness connector wasn't fully seat and locked before. | ||

Check to see if you have a U0001 error set in the ECM. If so, that indicates that the ECM lost communication with the IC. When the IC loses it's connection with the ECM, it's going to display one of two errors -- either a COMM Error or a Theft Error. Theft Error messages get set if the fault was noticed with the ignition off. The Comm error gets set if the fault gets noticed when the ignition is on, and communication breaks down with the ignition on. This makes sense when you think about it -- if you're riding and you lose the connection, the bike thinks that a communication error occurred. If this happens when the bike is turned off, the bike thinks somebody's been tampering with the bike or trying to steal it. If you get a Comm Error and turn the ignition off, and back on again, the Comm Error will disappear, and because the fault was noticed while the ignition was off, the same error will be reported as a Theft Error when you key-on. Clear as mud??? This makes me think you've got a bad connection in the new harness. | ||

Itīs definitely not a problem based on the structure of the 2009 wiring loom as the ECU and the IC always talk through the two Can Bus wires. That has never changed. So if You have only changed the wiring the problem must be in the Can Bus. You may have missed an end resistor plug or the Can Bus wires are defective which is easy to check. | ||

if you've got a bad connection where the plugs go together you could get those errors. so even if the physical structure of the loom is OK, you could just have a lousy connection, a loose wire crimp, oxidation, etc. the fact that the comm link takes place over the 2 can-bus wires tells you exactly where to look on the connectors. Alex, that's a really good point -- the differential bus won't work right if you don't have the terminating resistor. it would be pretty easy for someone to lose that connecting plug that has the terminating resistor in it. |
