my question: has anyone done up a nifty catch can/bottle for the crank case breather hose?

my reason:
i have noticed that the crank case breather hose has a nasty habbit of coming detachted from the lower air box plate.
the resulting vapors/fumes are blown into teh subframe/seat plate and leave a nice layer of crud.
furthermore, if the crank case breather hose comes off the air box, it cannot benefit from any 'RAM-air' effects.

also, if you add too much oil; it pukes it all over the engine, belt, swingarm and even a little on the tire.

Mine's never come off...reroute the hose so there's enough length?

Since mine's never come off...does it attach to a nipple, or poke through the base? Either way, put a hose clamp on the end to hold it in place. Either clamp it to a nipple, or if it goes through put the clamp inside the filter and the clamp won't pull through the hole.

the end of the breather hose has a rubber adapter piece that goes from the round breather hose to the square hole and holds a cubic piece of foam in the flow path.

i'm guessing it is glued to both the airbox and the hose when assembled, but mine has come unglued from the air box. it's a real pain just to even reach it and push the piece on with fingertips; so no chance of zip-tying or hose-clamping it in place.

i RTV'd the square hole in the air box, and then tugged the hose out and flipped it around, routing it next to the oil cooler.

now i just gotta find a bottle to fit it to and i'm set.

the catch can i made out of a soda bottle was a failure. come to think of it, i don't want to have to remeber to dump it every gas stop.

so i drilled a hole and routed the hose back into the air box, sans foam cube

I run my oil level high and I also get the oily mess at the back of the air box under the seat...

I think a catch can that is way in the back of the bike like where they put the fuel vapor canister on CA bikes would work. You would want to run it from the crankcase to the can in a upward slant so that when the bike was sitting all the oil residue would drain back into the crankcase... Also you would want to run from the catch can back up to the air box to keep the system all clean and nice. The long distance of the tubing and the vapor canister would likely eliminate any of the oily vapor from actually getting to the air box.

Basically it would be the same system as the Fuel vapor canister. Just instead of going from the gas tank to the can to the throttle it would go from the crankcase to the can to the air box.
