okay so I've read the bum cam threads a while back and have a spot on the front cyl exhaust cam. asked for a little good will but the mother-ship said to f-off. expected but disappointing. now the question i have is just the one cam? is there a real specific reason to do both or even all four? by real and specific i mean something other than 'you may as well while you're in there'... i am waiting to here back from Micheal at EBR and just figured i would pick the collective brain trust here. |

Depends on the wear pattern of the cams and the retainer cap. Parts _should_ be interchangeable as long as it's in spec. It's been a while since I've had a motor apart that far though, and never on the 1125 as of yet. |

I had one of, if not THE, first cam failure back in the summer of 2008. BMC/H-D replaced the exhaust cam and its follower under warranty/infant care. I did Loretta's 2nd valve inspection last summer and all the cams looked fine, zero pitting. Honestly, mine was de-laminating badly but I doubt I would have suspected trouble if I hadn't SEEN the cam. She made no new noises, no running/performance issues and no flecks in the oil. I did drop the strainer and found two tiny flakes of metal that were verrry thin.
Replace the cam with a new one and watch the other three, but don't lose sleep or riding time. Zack |

I had the same thing on my '08, I think at the second valve check, so probably just over a year of ownership. I couldn't tell. The only way we knew was from opening the motor. |

It only appears to affect the front exhaust cam ! So just replace that one IMO |

Yeah the damage on mine is maybe at most 5% of what you've got going on there. And I haven't heard any major changes to the rattle as of yet. Since I found the damage I haven't lost a wink but the bike has maybe seen 150miles in the last 80ish days.... |

When I looked at mine, post-mortem, the followers were pristine but I convinced Matt at CS to replace them. It was the front exhaust, BTW. Fix it and ride the hell out of it. |

the little 'block' on the center of the camshaft. is it required for balancing? I've left a couple messages with Dennis and sent an email to Michael and so far no response. sadly budget is a huge factor for me so it's not just a run out and buy one option. |

That's a good price for Exchange cams |

Certainly cheaper than new ones. Take offs from Erik are about the same. I remember reading somewhere that the 1190 is using cams from Crane but couldn't find them on the Crane site. |
