Mhpalin - I found it online at Surdyke.com HD/Buell parts for $23.40 plus shipping. Hey, i see your just above Edmonton, Alberta. I've got relatives in Edmonton and Calgary. Do you do any riding in the Baniff area? I've visited there but never riden it, lots of twisties! |

The roads around Banff are awesome. You can go a few different ways and have lots of fun, and see some great scenery. |

Might want to scan ebay also and see if somebody is parting out an engine. Even if they aren't offering that nut, you could shoot them a message and ask them to put up an auction for one. $20 isn't unreasonable in the industry. I'd expect to pay at least that much for a funny sized one for a Kawasaki or a Honda. |

it is not supposed to be re-used. so you prolly won't find one on e-bay If anyone wants a used one, I'll GIVE you my old one for free. Being free, it wouldn't be worth the money you pay for it. I talked to an engineer at EBR about this. Changing the rotor nut really isn't a recommendation. It's an absolute requirement. Some rotor nuts have been found to come loose under "sustained high-RPM conditions". (I think of that as their euphemism for high heat conditions.) If the rotor nut comes loose, that's a disaster. To understand this, it's important to think about fasteners as springs. When you torque a fastener, you're actually imposing enough torque to place the proper amount of spring tension on the nut and bolt to hold them together. The crankshaft is hardened. You won't be able to deform it to impose spring tension. The rotor nut is much more compliant. If you look at a new one and place it on a straight edge, you'll see that it is actually curved. This is because the rotor nut provides all of the spring tension to lock the rotor to the crankshaft. If you look at a used rotor nut, it won't have the curvature any more. When I checked mine it was flat. The reason you must replace the rotor nut is because the old one will be sufficiently deformed from it's previous use that it won't work as well as a spring as a new one. Your local dealer can order one for you. I got mine from EBR. Pay whatever it costs and don't complain. Think of the part as safety equipment. If you re-use an old nut and it comes loose, you could have a nasty outcome for both you and the bike. |
