So everybody, a very unfortunate thing happened the other day. I was on my way home from work just after it was completely dark. At the time there was a little sprinkle going on, but nothing major. I rounded the last turn of the night and had about fifty yards before my driveway. Of course with it raining and being dark I was cautious for taking it easy and looking out for deer. I was cruising along around 35-40mph and before I could even react, I noticed something out of the ordinary.. a 26 inch pine tree was lying in the road about twelve feet in front of me.. The next thing I remember was a paramedic sticking a needle in my arm. Talk about a dream.. No worries though. Full gear protected me well. Small concussion and two bruises (one on each palm). The bad news.. Apparently when I hit, the bike flipped over the tree with me on top. Upon landing the bike "bounced me off" and continued to tumble away. I see where I hit my head, but nothing else from the leather.. There's no way of telling, but that's what I was told. -Short term memory loss- I think I prefer it that way. My bike is toast.. Forks broke of the frame with the bent rim (thankfully I randomly took off my front and full fairing two days prior- they're safe... and now decoration..), and the bike managed to scrape everything on the exterior. Due to how expensive parts are for the bikes.. I know i'm going to regret it when the adjuster comes to relay the bad news. I'm sorry for the sob story guys, but I guess its a good excuse to get one of the newer bikes Erik has yet to release. |

This happened a little over three days ago, and I've nearly fully recovered. Lots of sore muscles the first two days :/. Ready to get back out and ride, without the trees of course. I appreciate the concern Dan. My father always told me I hard headed. |

Oh, man, what an awful story. The good news is that you were wearing gear and that you weren't killed or hurt really badly. I know it's hard to look on the bright side when your bike is totalled, but think about how much worse things might have been. Thank God you're alive. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and getting a friendly insurance adjuster. You never know, this could be the beginning of a nice track bike project... |

Glad to hear you're OK. The hardest thing I have ever encountered in my life is concrete!! Interesting to see what your insurance will give you..there are plenty of 1125R and CRs for sale and most @6k. IMHO they are the best bargain around. |

At least you can say "a tree jumped out in the road in front of me!" |

Thanks! I'm trying my best not to let it get to me. I lost my Firebolt a while back and it left me feeling pretty upset for the six months it took "Harley Davidson's" insurance to kick in gear, and even then they cut me a check for 2900?? I called foul for that.. granted it was an 04' xb12 but it only had 20k miles (17k were mine) and immaculate everything (before she slipped on the sandy road). I've Progressive now- considering passenger insurance and what not- and they've been on their toes so far. @Timebandit I count my blessings and consider myself fortunate to just have been shaken up a bit. The craziest thing.. before this incident, I needed to see a chiropractor on a regular basis for putting curvature back into my neck, which gave me trouble sleeping and holding my head up and the such, but now it feels as if it's never given me trouble? Tidbit of personal info but nevertheless. Once upon a time, an insurance agent told me that some companies actually let you keep the "corpse" as well as pay you when the bike is totalled? considering this doesn't too often for most people, but have any of you all heard of this before? If so, ---> |

I've never heard of them giving it to you but you have the option to buy it cheap. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just never heard of it. |

Glad to hear you're ok and all in one piece Bummer about the bike though I know what you mean about the memory blocking things out - I never remembered the impact from the most serious accident I had. I looked down at the speedo... then it was earth, sky, earth, sky... paramedics. I never remembered the car changing lanes, hitting the door, or going over the top of it. The brain does funny things to protect us, but I had no serious injuries, just bruises and a sprained foot and wrist. ATGATT rules. Insurance companies here call it "salvage rights", very rare for modern vehicles (less than 20 years old). |

I lost 14 days in my wreck in '08. I'm glad I never got those days back. Good to hear you're doing ok, and kudos for ATGATT. Good luck with the insurance, and when the time comes don't be afraid to get back on that ol' horse |

Glad you are here talking about it, and another thumbs up for ATGATT. And another great reminder to never ride faster than your sight lines! |

A pine tree? Sheesh, what next? Asteroids? Glad you're ok. You must be a youngster to heal so quickly. My experience is that when a bike is as broken as yours apparently is, let the insurance Co. have it. Just let the whole incident go completely and move on. Your psyche will heal faster and there are lots of pristine 1125s about from which to choose. |

Salvage rights vary from state to state. Where I live you have the choice to retain the bike for 20% of the settlement amount. |

Sorry to hear about your accident. It's awesome that you're ok and healing quickly. I think if you remembered the crash, it might have scared you off bikes for a little while. A friend wrecked my 07 12R, and he remembers nothing. He's also dying to get back in the saddle. Best wishes brother!! |

Thanks for the support guys! Ratbuell- 14 Days?! I couldn't imagine. Glad to see you're still with us. I'm a youngin' all right. Twenty years young. No worries, a bad giddyup on a horse isn't going to spook me away. I was ready to jump on my old rat bike today.. unfortunately my brother owns it now and needs new tires badly. The adjuster was by far the best person i've come in contact with. It's funny how the only thing of my apparel damaged was the helmet (of course), but i'm apparently getting reimbursed for it all! I feel like it's a crime but he insisted on it. I mean, I sure don't mind. I've always had a saying that goes along the lines of "there's never power for a bike.". In short, I see nothing wrong with having a 'big scary bike'. I'm sure all of you know this, but what I tell my friends is that the bike will only go as fast as you want it too (or can go..). I'd prefer my Buell over a 250 Ninja anyday (no offense). No worries Dhays. The feeling of freedom keeps me locked in tight. I used to love rebuilding cars with a buddy of mine, and eventually got so involved with it, it became a passion. The moment I got on my XB12R, that slate was wiped clean and I knew what I would quickly grow to enjoy. Granted, I nearly had to go back into diapers getting used to a 1200cc in the parking lot as a first time ride (apart from the Blast in the Riders Edge Course.. but that doesn't count). My only issue with insurance is that I have a few debts to pay off from school and my car decided to stop working a couple years back.. I better take this opportunity and remedy those situations. I'd LOVE to get back onto an 1125 but odds are its not gonna happen. My thoughts are to get an older cruiser as a daily rider, and eventually safe up for another dream bike (I doubt an 1190 would magically appear in my drive..). Maybe a 1200 sportster? that'd be wonderful but doubtful for a fair price that I could get another XB for (which is also possible). Unless one of you have a spare Buell getting lonely beside your 1125 that needs a home I've said it before in another feed that Buell's have been my favorite. Liter bikes and other cruisers never met my fancy. My Firebolt spoiled me with the BuellFever where only torque can be prescribed. My adjuster said he'd get me the salvage info to me as soon as he knew himself. If the offer is reasonable, i'll definitely consider fixin-her-up again. She might not be pretty, but why not? My rat bike was probably one of the ugliest bike i've seen but loved it nonetheless. Time shall tell.I may have to put off Buell for a bit, but on the bright side the EBR's may be out by then? I'll be like little kid on Christmas morning. Speaking of which, have any of you seen the 1190 in person? |

I have Proressive on everything I own and they have been good to me.I have remembered every crash I have had.In fact things get silent and go into slow motion. It is pretty far out and all kind of little details come into focus. One time I guess I was knocked out because I can still remember moving before I went out and then getting up with a black spot in between. It is weird when you know things have gone south because it is all happening in slow motionIt is also weird how you can clearly have a huge amount of memories and concerns pass through your head in such a short amount of time while all of this is going on.What a tragic rush |

In over 20 years of riding I had a car on my left at an intersection blow a red light, I was through the crosswalk and slammed the front brake on. The passenger had their arms up to protect their face. The look of horror on his face while bracing for impact. I was doing my first and only stoppie! I was about eighteen inches from the door of the car when I felt she was going too flip. I released the brake for a micro second, as she dropped I slammed the brakes back on. I ended up stopped looking down at my front tire, it was inches away as the rest of the car passed by. The event was done and over in less than 2 seconds, time stood still with all kinds of thoughts, Adrenaline. |

Buell_headred, Glad to hear your doing good after two days. I'm curious to know what the insurance adjuster tells you. If your interested in a slightly used Blast let me know, the wife likes it but she really is not meant to ride |

Glad your still here...when we get thrown off our bikes we travel at four times the speed we were traveling. Sooooooooo 10 mph will get you 40. And 40 will get you 160mph off your bike and thru the air and praying to your God for mercy. |

I think he's referring to conservation of momentum in a fully elastic collision. p = mv p1 = p2 m1v1 = m2v2 I don't know where that 4x figure came from. |
