The bike does not directly measure oil temperature. There is a coolant temperature sensor, but there is no oil temperature sensor. If I wanted to know if the oil cooler is working, I'd try using an infrared thermometer to compare the temperature of the supply and return lines. If you were brave, I suppose you could cover up the oil cooler and watch the bike's coolant temperature go up. Considering how hot this bike runs, I'd rather not do that. Although you can't directly measure temperature, you can measure oil pressure, and that would give you a pretty good indication that your oiling system is working properly. You could start off by verifying that the signal lamp functions properly at key-on. If you want to actually test oil pressure to be sure that the sensor is working, you need to remove the sensor and hook up a pressure gauge in it's place. |

Your best option if you really care about temps/pressures is to put in an aftermarket temperature/pressure gauge at the appropriate point in the system. As noted, there's no way to do it with the stock system. An easy check is to see if the oil cooler is warm/hot after a ride, depending on ambient temps. I'm not sure if there's a thermostat in there or not - some oil coolers have one, some don't, and I have no idea if the 1125 does or not. However, if after a nice spirited ride on a warm to hot day, the oil cooler is hot, it's working fine. I'd offer to check it for you after a ride, but I'm on the XB while I wait for tires to show up for the 1125. The ones on there are bad enough that riding it right now is tempting fate. |
