This is my headlight reflector on the low beam side. It's starting to loose some of the chrome and you can see the yellow/brownish plastic behind it. I just noticed it and am pretty bummed out. I did do the swap to 55w HID kit but I figured that those would run cooler than the stock halogen. Anyone else have this problem? Any warranty hopes? |

If the loosing chromes appear on the separation "wall" (lines engraved) I thinks it's not a problem, I have the same problem, but appeared when I installed the HID, so my be I burned or it's a bad piece, I don't know. I'm out of warranty, but if you still have it go to the dealer. We cannot buy the chrome part alone, we must buy the whole "head" so almost 250€+-, so go to your dealer and try to save some bucks. |

I don't know how hot the HID bulbs for MC headlight applications get. I do know that HID lamps used for general purpose lighting burn really hot. Like more than 400 degrees F. Hot enough that I've been burned just by working right under the reflector. If you've got access to a hand-held IR thermometer you could compare HID vs. stock bulb temps. It could be that the HID bulbs are cooking your reflector. If that's the case, I'd expect no warranty coverage. FWIW I bought my thermometer gun on-sale at Harbor Freight for $25. |

everything I've read said to stick with the stock 35w because of the heat issues |

I've seen the stock bulbs do the same things to the reflectors. Happened on my XB. |

Has anyone tried to fit an HID projector into a CR enclosure? I'd be thrilled to give it a try if someone has a perished CR headlight assembly they'd like to donate to the project. (Message edited by pwillikers on January 09, 2012) |

I'm waiting for my hi/low projectors, but it will probably take some time to get them and specially to install them. It's going to be quite a big project since the projector is too long to fit in CR head.... Will see what i'll be able to do. I'm more then happy with my hi/low projectors on xb. p.s.: doesn't hid produce less heat then halogen bulbs??? |
