Socalmoe - Saturday is a Fasttrack Riders event and I'm sure spectators are welcome. Last time I went, there was no entry fee. Just tell the gate guy you are there for the track day. Court - Help is always appreciated, especially at events like this where tire support is minimal. Anyone interested can paypal sponsor@crotchrocket.tv Also, clicking on the ads that show up in the videos on Crotchrocket.tv, or on the Crotchrockettv youtube channel will help to generate income. It costs nothing and if I can get enough traffic, it could support the racing. Subscribing to the Crotchrockettv youtube channel is also a big help as youtube sets ad rates by views and subscribers. If members of the board could subscribe and encourage their friends to subscribe, that would be very helpful. Thanks for the encouragement. I am very excited about this season as well. From Road Racing World...go here: http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?artic le=47002 "A" Superbike Expert: 5th F1 Expert: 4th Hvwt Twins Expert: 1st RRWorld reported the event was held in very windy conditions - Fontana is in a "funnel" south of the mountains...Lytle Creek (not far from Fontana) is famous for having winds high enough to tip over Semis....the wind is nothing new to those who race at Willow Springs... |

The wind was brutal. Worse that anything I've seen at Willow Springs. That said, we struggled with many issues over the weekend and obviously did not get the overall results that we were after. Shawn was more than 40 seconds ahead in the twins race when on the last lap when a huge gust of wind took the front end right out from under him as he made the turn on to the home straight at well over 100 mph. He literally slid onto the straight with the bike laying on top of him, but being the pro that he is, he kept the throttle on. Just as he was about to give up the ghost, the front tire caught a little pavement, so he pushed the bike up, the tires caught, and he was able to stand it up and still finish in first with more than 5 seconds to spare. Witnesses said that it was the most amazing save that they have ever seen. Oh, and the bike has not a scratch on it. In the other two races, Shawn started on the third row, but pulled into the lead at the start. He was unable to maintain the lead through the back twisties as he could just not get a good drive out of the turns. Clearly we have more to learn about the setup. We were running the Ohlins/AK-Gas combo for the first time and the valving on the AKs is still too stiff; better that stock, but not yet right. They will be going back to Traxxion for adjustment. My brain is throbbing with how much I have learned in the last few months. But one big lesson has been how hard it is to get everything just right. One little change can make a huge difference in performance, when you are talking about 10ths of a second. It's back to Willow this weekend. We might go back to Shawn's forks until we can't get the Ohlins/AK-Gas combo re-valved. Right now I just need some sleep. I feel like I've been in a cage fight. Huge thanks to Slaughter, Sunny, Roy, Blanch, Ozzie, Mark Z, Tracy and all who showed up to cheer us on and help in the pits. Could not do it without you. Special props go tot Tony Romo from Dunlop, who's commitment to providing the best performing tires possible is unmatched. I am learning more about rubber than I ever thought possible. Thanks Tony, you are the man! Never Give Up! |

#$@%^&*!. The PA was out at the track and Shawn was still in street clothes when I guy yells into the garage "Final and immediate call race 4" . I ride the bike to the hot pit and start gassing it up and checking tire pressure while Shawn jumps into his leathers and then gets a ride on another bike to the track. He misses the warmup lap and jumps on the bike just in time to get to the grid, at which point I realize, "the cameras!" I run down to the grid and am about to jump the wall when the flag drops and off they go... So no, there is no g@!@##$ Mo!@#$ F!@##$ video... |

you know, if you've got video of that slide/recovery, it's worthy of being shown on ESPN's weekly sports highlights. it will be every bit as good -- if not better -- than Danny Sullivan's famous 1985 "spin and win" at the Indy 500. |

Rob, you need to call the track to get a list of names of everyone who was there. Then you need to call every single person to see if they have video. To me it sounds like you've lost one of the greatest sports videos of all time. |

Wow! That would have been shown on all sorts of shows for years to come. Like those sports bloopers video or amazing recovery videos. Too bad, I would love to have seen that. |

"than Danny Sullivan's famous 1985 spin and win at the Indy 500". I remember that!! Crazy NYC taxi driver! On the last turn of the last lap, hit the inside line did a fast perfect 360, and won the race anyway. |

Very cool to hear you had a successful weekend even with the wind and working with the new suspension. I hope you find someone has video of that save! Great to hear the support crew were there in force too But one big lesson has been how hard it is to get everything just right. One little change can make a huge difference in performance, when you are talking about 10ths of a second. While I understand it is a different bike, would you say it's more sensitive to setup changes than the 1125R/1125RR? |

VERY cool thing. Dave McGrath stopped by the group at the hot pit before the second race. The 1190RS was HIS project before the closure. He's still emotionally attached to the bike - that was very obvious. McGrath was head of Buell Racing R&D before the shut down. HE is now Director of AMA Pro Racing (ALL forms of racing) http://www.ultimatemotorcycling.com/AMA_Pro_Racing _Dave_McGrath |

What I think is that experience with the 112RR does not necessarily translate to the 1190RS; not that it is more difficult. More sensitive maybe, because it is much more nimble. I will say that the Fontana track is difficult to set up for if you don't have a lot of data for the bike and or track. Long straights into full lean S's and hairpins. Very hard braking. You are working at the extreme ranges of the bike. It's a matter of finding the best trade off's. Keep in mind that this is only our second race on dry pavement, so we are still learning. It takes so much time because you have to make changes one at a time so you know what the effects are. Plus we are testing different tire compounds and profiles for Dunlop, so things get even more complex. But Shawn is really good: meticulous and methodical. He can feel the slightest change in the setup. Saturday we were doing quite well. By the end of the day we had dropped from 1:31 to 1:29 and had a list of changes to work through for Sunday's morning practice. But the extreme wind and cold along with some red flags, cut the morning short so we did not get through everything. So on to Willow this weekend to give it another shot. Ok, that makes sense to me. Sounds like you guys are making good progress considering new bike, new suspension and new tires among everything else. Keep it up! Good luck at Willow this weekend! More sensitive maybe, because it is much more nimble. Cool, that kind of tells me what I suspected about the 1125 too. |
