Headlights went out yesterday, including high beams. Fuse looks fine, wiring underneath looks OK, bulbs check out. Could it be the AUX relay? Something else? For full disclosure, I low sided on the right side a couple months ago but the electrics have been fine. Thanks in advance, Phil |

Only the headlights are out? Do the little marker lights on the ends work? |

IIRC, if the headlight fuse goes out, or is pulled, the bike won't start. Did something come unplugged? Have you done a wiggle-test on the ignition switch wiring? See if you have power AT the fuse, then trace your way downstream from there... |

Grab the loom under the ignition barrel and give it a wiggle, I'd say that's where your problem will be. Also try turning lock to lock with bike running, see if they flash on. |

Froggy - yes, it's only the headlights, including marker lights on the end. Rat - I have done a wiggle test, but I could wiggle some more. ; ) Avalaugh - I'll try turning to the lock position and observe. The bike starts, so it's a good point that the fuse is fine, which confirms what I saw when I pulled and inspected it. Thanks everyone, I'll let you know what I find. |

there's a box with relays in it back by the battery ( looks like a fuse box)...the headlight relay also controls the starter circuit (not the starter motor...it has it's own relay)...the relay that does the Starter/Head light connections is also used on Vrods - where it does the same "job"....some of the Vrod faithful say it fails...I believe all the relays are white with the exception of this starter/head light relay which is BLACK ...you may want to start there ...good luck (...didn't want to take any chances -I replaced mine with one from NAPA) (Message edited by nuts4mc on December 13, 2011) |

Sorry it took so long to get back to y'all - been multitasking out the wazoo lately. I have ruled out the relay by putting in a new one - still no headlights. I've played with the wiring up front by jiggling this and wiggling that but still no headlights. Tail light, brake light, blinkers and speedo/control unit all light up. By ruling out the relay, I guess it has to be the wiring but it looks like it will require a systematic approach to figure what's a foul. If I'm missing anything, feel free to chime in. Merry Christmas everyone! Phil |
