Been searching the web for services and was a little dismayed at how much shipping a bike costs. Going from VA to CA the cheapest I could find was about $600. Any ideas on a more economical method? Thanks in advance. |

if you're an AMA member: http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/Riding/Street/ Resources/ToShipOrNotShip.aspx maybe a little cheaper... ...have to agree with Dean-it's the journey...not the destination. |

www.uship.com I've used it multiple times. If you have some flexibility, you can get a good price, but want to screen bidders to make sure you get the service you want. I've had no issues with the shippers I've contracted. |

I've used uship.com too but it was still about $500 to get a bike from New York to southern Illinois. $400 seems to be about the best deal I've seen for bike shipping over long distance. Flying out and riding it back isn't even really cheaper unless you can find a super cheap flight and you don't mind burning through gas, tires, and your own time getting the bike home. |

Ride it and fly back? Fun, but that's a new rear tire and 1/2 a front, plus gas, plus air fare, hotel, food...........hookers, blow.... Experience? Priceless (Message edited by sprintst on December 02, 2011) (Message edited by sprintst on December 02, 2011) |

I agree with Uship too. I shipped from Texas to SC for around $400. That was about the best I could find and that was 2 years ago. |

$600 is about the going rate. I've heard horror stories about cheap shipping. |

Thanks for the ideas guys. A roadtrip to CA would be awesome. Especially since I could really use some inhalatory treatment for my glaucoma But considering that I am selling the beast because I am broke blowing all that cash on glaucoma medicine and hippy chicks (not to mention the expense of the inevitable divorce proceedings once I got back home) would sort of be the opposite of what I am trying to accomplish |

Haulbikes.com is who I have just twice. Both times went perfect. It was 600 to ship my S1W from CA to MO. |

Not sure what shipper my buddy used when he bought a XB12r but it was shipped from the other side of the country. A couple showed up to the front door with the bike in the back of their toy hauler and rolled it off the back. There were other toys inside as well. They had a great setup and that's all they did. Ship toys around the states and make folks happy. |

Best shipping of a bike: http://www.paposteve.com/ Shipped one from North Carolina to Arizona, one from Arizona to Florida. Door to door, on time, no problem, takes care of your stuff. Retired guy who just hauls bikes east to west on the I-10 corridor and north and south on the coasts. Good guy. LJM |

Thanks for the info Ljm Looks like the bike is sold. Awaiting payment before I update the classified. As luck would have it the buyer is close enough I can deliver the bike via trailer myself...and that is a beautiful thing for both of us. He saves money and I avoid stress. I've got all the info provided here bookmarked just in case I need to do this again...ya never know. I still have the wife's Buell Blast and my 1979 Triumph Bonneville...and the economy is still sucking. Gotta hope I can still keep at least one bike around...I've been riding since 1983. I don't know what it would be like not to have that option. |
