Hi,

I have the following dealers around where I live, and I like to replace with 08 rotor/stator setup. So far I've been to Oakland HD (former Faultline from Fremont). They refused to replace with 08 parts, and they've been too dumb so far. Will never go to them anymore.

Other choices I have by distance:
Dudley Perkins in South San Francisco
Livermore HD
McGuire HD in Walnut Creek
Devil Mountain HD in Pittsburg
Eagle's Nest HD in Lathrop
Monterey County HD in Salinas

Does somebody know if any of those dealers replaced 09 setup with 08 under warranty?

I bought my CR from Dudley Perkins. When my THIRD stator went out this past June, I asked them to swap the 08 parts over the phone.... Their reply was "parts are superseded, and the 08 isn't compatible".

We all know thats a load of crap, but at least gives you an idea of their knowledge of the situation.

Cant hurt to ask again. Let us know what you find!

On a positive note, I'm over 5K on a stator (replaced in June) for the first time. I am running about half a quart overfill on the oil. I guess only time will tell.

My original stator lasted for 5500 miles.
OK, I knew that Dudley Perkins is a piece of junk. Out of the list.

Devil Mountain is good - less than a week later stator replaced. 2 Buell XB riding mechanics there, I figure enough people ask, they might start saying yes, they might do it - is the 08 set up cheaper than the 09 - they suggested such after the fact by how much the 09 stator was.

Rotor or as HD calls it, magneto flywheel hub, has a retail price of $825. If they just replace the '09 stator, there is no need to pay for new rotor. Plus, changing the rotor is more labor intensive than just replacing existing stator.
I am not defending this logic, the '08 setup seems to be the only real fix. But, you can see why the bean counters keep replacing stators. (yeah, it seems to me, you could bite the cost of the retrofit once and be done with it, but who knows how they think?)

I think the rotors had different part numbers between '08 and the '09-'10?

Rotors and stators are different for 08.
Stator is $543, rotor is $680 after 20% discount.

My stator cost over 700 bucks - I didn't pay nothing but 50 bucks, the extended warranty paying for itself.

Bought my '09 R at Monterey HD (Salinas). Has 22K miles on it now. Their capabilities are limited on Buells. I doubt any dealer would put non standard parts on under warranty.
My bike seems to not be fully charging the battery. I did a 200 mile ride yesterday, put battery tender on when I got home. Took an hour for it to be fully charged. Yet when I check battery volts while riding I often see hi 13's to 14.2. Yet riding in town and catching many red lites will get a "Battery" alarm. WTF?

So I've left with:
Livermore
McGuire
Devil Mountain
Eagle's Nest

Any opinions about those? How about McGuire in Walnut Creek, and Livermore?
