I've got system voltage/high voltage, headlight bulb burned, no turn signals, etc. It's definitely a voltage regulator. I told the dealer about that. I also reproduced the system voltage error to them, and they've seen high voltage above 16V by their own eyes. Since their diagnostic didn't record the high voltage, instead they said that I have a bad stator. They may be right, though the stator was giving good voltage at the test, but in between the legs the resistance was around 5 Ohms. The stator was looking burnt at the top part. They also replaced the rotor, as it was cracked. OK. But they don't want to replace the VR, because they have no code for it. The only have COMM ERROR. They are talking about replacing the instrument cluster right now, as they think that the cluster is "lying" about the high voltage. I keep telling them to replace the VR, but they don't want to do that, because the factory told them so. What a stupid dealer! |

The dealer is at the mercy of HD. If HD doesn't tell them to replace the VR, they can't. If they did, it would be out of their own pockets. |

After the replacement of rotor and stator, and the problem apparently remains the same. Let's see what will be the next replacement. I bet it will the instrument cluster. So far I'm riding HD Road Glide for two weeks now. |

"The dealer is at the mercy of HD. If HD doesn't tell them to replace the VR, they can't. If they did, it would be out of their own pockets." BS, In some situations yes but not this one. The tech diagnoses the issue and repairs, if and i mean if HD calls for the part and it does not prove defective the dealer hold the bag and that would be if he did not contact tech service to approve the repair. Find a dealer who cares if you can, if they replaced the rotor and stator you should have had them downgrade you to "08" spec. How's that 900lb road pig working out for you,lol |

I asked them to replace with 08 parts, but they said factory doesn't approve. I also called the factory and they said that they won't replace with 08 parts because there was a battery drain issue in 08. I talk to Brian at Buell tech support (dealer line). He said that he personally have 09 CR and he uses harness and 09 stator and it works well. He had one stator fried. I don't know why he was reluctant to replace my VR in the first place, after I told him about symptoms. They replace rotor and stator 2 times already. Total of 3 stators, 2 rotors, 1 VR replaced, and 1 harness replaced. I don't know which dealer to go next. I have 3 dealers close by. So far I went to Oakland HD, because that one was most Buell friendly. The others are Dudley Perkins in South San Francisco, which looks they don't care about Buells at all, then there is a Livermore, Devil Mountain in Pittsburg, Monterey County in Salinas. I don't know anything about those. I'm willing to go to any dealer which will replace rotor and stator with 08 parts next time. I have 5 years of extended warranty left so far. |

The dealer replaced rotor, stator and a harness, but they still have the same problem. For some reason factory doesn't want to replace the VR. They are now talking about instrument cluster replacement. The dealership already has 3 bikes with the same problem. |

The tech does not have to get permission to replace a voltage regulator from the factory, plain and simple. Tech diagnoses problem, tech fixes problem. Tech has no clue, tech call tech services. They work together to find solution, tech hopefully fixes issue, problem fixed, all happy. Problem not solved? customer not happy, HD possibly calls for part, part good Hd no pay. Dealer no get paid. It sound like your dealer is afraid to diagnose the bike because they are unsure of what they are doing. There are some parts that can not be replaced without HD's approval but this is not one of them. You may need an IC also but that is not your charging issue. Find another dealer but again i haven't talked to them. Hopes this helps.Bob |

There is a "trouble tree" for diagnosis. It must be followed. It's HD's money, so you must play by their rules if you want them to pay. Contradict common sense? Yup. But it is what it is, if you want it for free. |

Dealer finally replaced the VR on their own, then told the factory that it solved the problem. Factory approved. |
