Ducati released a new engine for the new 1199 Panigale. It looks like it has a lot of design cues from the 1125/1190 rotax motor. The engine is a stress member, and they went to a chain driven cam shaft. Very interesting, 195 Hp and 98 ft-lbs of torque is impressive. http://www.superquadro.ducati.com/en/?__utma=1.879 811884.1318267138.1318267138.1318267138.1&__utmb=1 .1.10.1318267138&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.131826 7138.1.1.utmcsr=newsletter|utmccn=NL_20111010|utmc md=email|utmcct=motore_sbk&__utmv=-&__utmk=2161479 90 |

Sounds fantastic shame they couldn't squeeze out 5 more hp |

Yeah, you would think they would of done 200 HP just for bragging rights. |

1199 Duc: Under the engine exhaust. “Monocoque” frame. I wonder if any of Ducati's "outside the box" design approach was influenced by Eric Buell. |

Whoever that is. Certainly it was influenced by Erik Buell's work. |

The real question is: what is the price going to be? |

I think it's great. First I saw the KTM 1190 RC8 w/it's underslung muffler. Then saw the Japanese sport bikes lowering and shortening their mufflers. Ducati lowered and shortened the muffler on the Multi 1200 and now a completely underslung muffler on the 1199. Makes me smile that some old guy in Wisconsin 'might' have known what he was doing all along... Nels |

Probably a motor in a fairly low state of tune. After a Dyno session (which I only use for 'before and after' comparisons) when I'd fitted a PC V to my 1198 it was putting out 170rwhp and 100ft/lb. The monocoque structure could probably be traced back to the Ariel Leader/Arrow of the 50's |

it will be interesting to see how the designers will solve the size of the oil sump and the placement of the muffler/exhaust ...possibly the return of oil tanks ala HD/Triumph??? |

Nothing wrong with a dry sump system... seems to work for the XBs. |
