I really enjoyed the SSSA on my Triumph Sprint ST. Sexy, exotic and makes maintenance very easy That said, I'd trade it for the convenience of belt drive any day YMMV |

Do it! I've seen SSSAs on other Buells, but not a 1125. |

Give it a shot if you think you know what youre doing. It would me way too involved for me. |

a) review the relationship between: 1) rear tire and belt or chain - you may have to use an off set drive sprocket to clear the tire (or use a skinny rear tire = hard to find) 2) the location of the pivot to the drive sprocket - what will the belt/chain do with full suspension travel ( saw into the swingarm? - need a spring loaded belt tensioner?) b) the wheelbase change - a short swing arm will make the bike wheelie prone ...a longer swing arm will hurt the flickability c) Honda built a "hawk" (NT650)..it was a twin and had a single sided swingarm might fit your project (and budget) better? good luck |

the old hawk spoke about before is a good idea, I actually just recommended the same to a friend recently for his SV Nice thing about the hawk is that you can get a whole running bike with title for about 1500 bucks, quite cheap. To the original poster - if you want it, do it. And please please please post up pics as you make progress, im anxious to see how this turns out. Will really make these things more exotic, leaving people more and more confused on what it is until they read the tank (hell, a lot of people dont know what it is even after reading the name on the bike...) |

Thanks for the comments, As far as wheelbase and offsetting the tire I'm hopeing to keep it the same which is why I had the old swingarm scanned so that I can design the new swingarm with the correct dimensions so that hopefully it stays the same. My plan is to convert to chain drive ( I do agree that the belt drive is nice and clean, but that sssa would just look to cool) my design will use the hub from the vfr. This is still all theory I'm confiden I can machine the swingarm without any issues it's more the engineering part that worries me a bit ( strength, and effects on the bike. When I have a model complete I'll post a pic. |

If it can be done on an XB then I'm sure it can be done on a 1125. http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/6 45505.html?1312262330 The best part will be that the 1125 is left side drive like other single sided bikes. |

You stole my idea was intending to do the same over this winter, I've not done any research yet, if you could mail me any findings you may have, I'll do the same. |

The Buell team put tons of analysis into the dynamics of the swing arm and it's interaction with the frame. Not saying to not do it, But even if the measurements are the same, the handling will be affected. Where did you have the scan done. How much? |

I realize it might change the handling but I don't race the bike, and I don't think I would even notice the difference. If anything it will be the wieght gain that kind of bothers me. But hopefully the end look will make up for any performance loss that I might have. The company that scanned it for me is called Inspectx and they are in Windsor Ontario Canada. As far as the price I haven't been billed yet, I'll let u know. I'm vla to hear so many people are in to this, but it probably will take me quite awhile to complete, we are quite busy and I don't know when I'll get some machine time. |

I used a 2008 triumph arm. I have a lot of the pics on the Face Book account but not here. the trick is alignment. I used my 16 point jig to tack it all together and digital levels to keep the alignment correct. Its welded with two different wire types to allow flex but strength as well. Loose and I both started our projects at the same time and shared info back and forth on findings as we went. I think Court is on to something with the Hawk arm. However, its a little more hard to locate. From the findings the Triumph arm is the more simple one to do. I lucked out on mine. If spaced correctly you will not need a spacer on the Xb's. Mine needs .030 to be exact. Not bad for the prototype first shot. I was also able to extend my oil tank to get one more Qt of oil in it just to help with cooling. Currently its in primer waiting on Final paint work with the new reworked frame and reworked sub frame. |
