My local multi-franchised dealer recently took in a 59 plate Uly. They have it up for sale at £5600 ($9000) which is a bit over the top even for UK prices but I thought I'd pop in and ask for a "price to change" against my 59 plate 1125R.

Long story short, they offered me a p-t-c cost of $1200.

I had a quick look at the trad in value of the 1125R in their trade book and it shows ~£4000 ($6600) which is actually a little better than I expected.

Unfortunately, for the $1200 cost to change they want me to throw in my Barker and stock pipe, the trick levers, the backup camera install, my plate flipper, the R&G sliders, the custom and stock seats, the full fairing kit, the zero-g and stock screens, the Race and OEM ECM and put a new front tire on..

Personally, I was thinking I'd be prepared to consider the change at £500 ($800) if i got to return the 1125R to stock and sell the farkles on seperately so i think they're being a bit greedy...but I know they're a business so have to make some margin.

I think I'll hang on until next April when i should get my next bonus and then I can get the Uly as a replacement for my ZZR1100 and have both bikes.

One other plus is that the dealer knew nothing about any charging issues with the 1125 and would have been happy to take it in..that's comforting.

BTW, I love the 1125R, the custom rewind stator seems to be holding up well and the 08 setup I bought off eBay should be arriving from the states any day now : )

The 'Book price' quoted by delaers is for clean standard machines, so you could really take off your bling and still get the same trade in price for it. As a dealer they would not be legally allowed to sell your bike with the dubious 'flip plate' fitted nor the Barkers exhaust (although plenty of 'dodgy' dealers do sell bikes that are not road legal), so returning it to stock could actually get you a better price if you shop around.

How would they know you have alternate seats, fairings, exhausts, ECU's etc unless you told them? tell them thatthe bike is for sale as it stands with no extras fitted.

To be honest I would shop around a bit more as they are asking too much for the Uly in the first place! 59 (2009) plate Ulys were sold off cheaper than that brand new!

Yep, I agree that the sale price is too high, but that didn't really bother me as it's the cost to change price that's really of interest.

I also agree that the extras that are on it should come off, as you say a couple of them aren't strictly legal.

The custom seat etc is pretty obvious on the bike so they asked if I had the stock one and I said "yes" and I was surprised when they said they wanted both rather than just the stock item as I'd expected.

They also asked if the bike had been modified to accept the new pipe so again i told them i had an Erik Buell Racing ECM fitted, and again I said I have the stock items at which point they once again said, "cool, we'll have both of them".

TBH I was taken aback a bit that they asked for both. If I were seriously considering the deal I'd negotiate a bit harder as there's no way i'd hand over all of the stock items AND the after market stuff.

I'd prefer to put it back to stock and sell the other items on eBay.

I think I'll just be patient and hang on to the summer and have a Uly and the 1125, that'd make me a very happy man.

I loved my Firebolt XB12R. Despite a few items I fixed/replaced due to wear & tear (fuel pump, headlights, fan), the bike was stone reliable. If I didn't have my newer, lower mileage VFR800 I would have kept the Firebolt because that bike was simply running smoothly and was very reliable. It would make a great companion to the 1125R.
