Last Thursday i pull into a local bikenight.
Start pulling into a spot and the bike shuts off, displaying a system voltage error.
Voltages just before this showed 13.8-14.1
Hit the starter, and tach. needle goes to 6k but no start, hit it twice more and did same thing.
I waited about 15 seconds and she fired right up.
Voltages were normal.
Ate dinner, went for about an hour ride and everything was normal.

Any clues???

I’m not an EE , but I used to hang out with guys that drag raced (Rat Motors) big blocks in little cars out at Thompson – often battery relocation was done and big arc welding cables ( gauge “00 or 2/0) were used to power the starter…once the cars got hot (and the starter is near the exhaust headers…a lot like the 1125) they were difficult to start….living here in the SW the air temps this time of year are triple digits and trying to get the bike to fire after putting in gas is a little embarrassing especially when I’m riding with my friends on rice burners and beemers…I added a ground (4 ga) from the ground stud by the swing arm pivot – up over the shock and then down past the cylinders and bolted to the “block” with a bolt that attaches the starter – it helps…the wire is a starter cable I picked up at auto zone – about 40 “ long and terminated with “ring” lugs (like starter cables used on a 60s era fords)….it’s black - you can’t easily see it – you might want to give it a try…with heat - electrical resistance goes up and a hot engine (and starter) need more amps to spin and start the beast.

Did you check your diagnostics? I would bet it will show a communication error.
Mine has been doing this, losing communication between the ECM and the IC. When this happens, the tach locks up, and the screen displays voltage error.
It will start right back up, if I turn it off, and then back on.
When checking the diagnostic codes, it will say Comm Error..
