Anyone ever use this or a similar set up and actually use the "ram air" function of it? Just curious because its pretty slick looking!

Looks neat, but I suspect that it won't really work for true ram air. Too far back out of the windstream to really be effective, especially on an R.

Reminds me of this one. Was too much money for pure looks. With out some fairly major air box mods I can't see the ram air portion working.

There would really be no ram-air effect. It would only provide another route for air to get to the filter. You would have to remove the inner air box cover in order for it to move air over the filter.

I like the looks of it, but im cautious about chinese made carbon products. It even states right in their add that it has fiberglass also. Not a structural piece of carbon. and to be honest, there will be flaws in the carbon tweel.

And for that price its a rip off! For $130 more Id rather get a real carbon piece and support an american company!

D_adams -- I can't help but agree, the bars, controls, R or CR fairing all disrupting airflow. The between the forks scoop location of the OEM could probably be improved upon with more bang for the buck.

A larger front snorkel, might be more functional.

The 1190RS has a bigger airbox, that might be more functional.

The bike bone stock has ram air.

Also, I've seen that cover in person, it is garbage. Cheap, poorly built, looked extra thin and brittle.

I agree about the ram air effect maybe I should of called them air scoops. Really Froggy well that bites! But I was reading reviews on the hong kong carbon fiber and everyone who purchased seems extremely pleased.

Al has a MUCH nicer one at American Sport Bike.
It's still just BLING, no function...

Do air intakes on the airbox itself reduce or eliminate performance of the standard OEM ram intake?

Unless you modify or remove the inner box, no effect other than visual.

There is nothing inherently wrong with using layers of fiberglass or other reinforcements with carbon fiber

This would be done for a number of reasons, wall thickness, stiffness, impact characteristics, etc...

However, fiberglass layers do weigh more than CF layers, so bear that in mind

I've developed products (non motorcycle) using fiberglass, kevlar, CF, trevira, Spectra and other fibers. Each have their uses

on the Buell XB they work perfect. When you are able to run the cover:http://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikelen/4E 87AE84-E0A9-42FA-B0AD-27F458605F36.jpg We make these our self, without the airbox cover above the filter on the 1125 it will work. You only need to make a new Timing and Fuell setting for this.

I bought one. No apparent ram-air function since the scoops are sort of behind the fairing. The design is cute though.

Also, since the several manufacturers of these all seem to import from Asia, the quality is *ahem* average. Mine arrived with some pinholes in the resin, a couple places where the CF fabric appeared to be flawed, etc. Also, I understand most of them are just a sheet of carbon laid over fiberglas (not sure about that).

+1 you get what you pay for. The one I bought was $200 and when I squawked they refunded my money without requiring return. It's never been on the bike for more than a few minutes.

Douglas, Carbon fiber color all depends on the weave color. I have seen some colored carbon parts. Otherwise an option would be to have them painted with a color tinted clear (if that is even possible) so that the carbon fiber shows through. It's all about how much money you want to spend.
