When my CR's stator failed at 2200 miles I was told my oil level was low. The harness was on the bike when I bought it with 39 miles. The harness didn't seem to be such a great contribution, making it only 2,200 miles. Litening to the dealers mechanic, the low oil level seemed to be an issue. Since then I have been changing oil and filter with 3 quarts. Be careful on how much you put in, too much and it could make the situation worse. There is a fine line between too much and too little. Let us know how it goes. |

I was considering fabing up a larger oil cooler. More oil and more cooling. This may become a winter project. Need to sort out the stator stuff before getting back to power searching. Also after taking off the stator was curious if anyone has added oil directly inot the stator housing through the sensor hole? But I know in cars too much oil is a bad thing. |

An engineer with Erik Buell Racing has posted here saying, in effect, that oil jets aimed at the stator may be the fix for stator overheating. An engineering solution like that would be the best way to resolve these stator burning out problems. Unfortunately there has not been any further info forthcoming on this solution, yet. We have to wait until they can offer details on this. In the meantime adding more oil beyond the overfill point is not smart. That doesn't guarantee more oil will get to the stator than if the oil level is at spec level but it does potentially raise the possibility of engine damage due to oil foaming and resultant loss of oil pressure not to mention parasitic drag from the crank sloshing through oil in the sump (if that's possible). If it were me, I wouldn't run it with oil beyond the high mark on the dipstick. The best thing is to stick with an accurate method of checking the oil level: bike vertical, wheels on level ground, engine hot, 5 minutes after shutting off. |

more of a pressure issue... at least in cars thats the risk. Blowing seals and gaskets and such. |

Kinder, Too much cooling on the oil can be harmful too, especially in cooler weather. It's important to get the oil up to a high enough temperature in order to vaporize moisture that inevitably collects. Remember, water is one of the primary byproducts of combustion. |

Remember, water is one of the primary byproducts of combustion.) True... however consider space limitations and the weather people ride in I believe we are well away for those kind of temps. I am still leaning more towards a flow issue vs a cooling one though now that a few Custom Rewinds are failing. It's great he's in on this problem solving though. } |

For what its worth I have been running my oil just below the overfull mark since I first heard about stator issues. I now have 13k on the original stator and have had no oil leaks. |

In my previous post I have a link where Kicka666 states that he is maintaining five 1125's with 3.3 liters and filter. liter to quart conversion 1 liter = 1.05668821 US quarts 1.05668821 * 3.3 = 3.487 quarts. 3.3 liters is the same as 3.48 quarts. |

has anyone actually monitored oil temp on these bikes? does the engine have and oil temp switch/sensor? |
