So I came out of work Thursday to a puddle of oil under my front tire. Looks like the right fork seal is blown. Must have blown on the way to work because there was no oil in my garage when I got home. My question is, Is the oil seal the "only" thing holding the oil in the fork? Is this all I need to replace other than brake pads. On a positive note its the first time in forever that my front brake hasn't pulsed. :-) Looking to order a set from American Sport Bike and want to know if its all I need.

Forks need to have their oil changed regularly.

Order the seal and the dust wiper. Also get the tool for compressing the fork spring. I got the parts from AS B and the tool from Traxxion Dynamics. I did both seals. The brake pads were spared, even though it was the right side tube that was leaking. I also used Spectro 15wt. You'll need two liters, though you won't use all of both of them.

Parts should be here Friday. I made a fork compressor from a ratchet strap and a castor. I have the leaking one apart. There is about a 1/2" chunk ripped out of the bottom side of soft lip of the seal. The only thing I can think of is something stuck to the fork tube and was pulled up into the seal. They have been doing a lot of paving in my area. Chunk of asphalt maybe? I cleaned some gritty tar like splatters off the windscreen and fairing.

Dnlink - Please let us know how many miles on the fork oil and describe its condition.

Dnlink - instead of a caster, I used a piece of bicycle inner-tube and run the strap thru it in the axle hole.
Moves smoothly and won't pop off.

Dannybuell- 18400 miles on the fork oil and bike. Oil looked ok to me, looks like clean ATF fluid.

Zac4mac- Good idea.
