I cruised past a parked motorcycle cop--didn't see him where he was hidden until I was almost upon him. I looked down and my speedo read 78mph. He gave me a wave so I waved back and kept going. A couple miles up the road, I saw a single headlight gaining on me fast, and then the flashers came on, so I pulled over. The short version? He said he clocked me at 79mph but, when I asked if there was any way he could write me a warning, he offered reduce the ticket from 79 in a 55... to 75 in a 55. THANKS! I asked him, "I thought I saw you wave at me, so I waved back." He said, "no, I was motioning you to pull over". So much for any rider-to-rider courtesy there. BTW, this was on a four-lane divided highway where traffic regularly goes 70mph or more (aside from the occasional jackass blocking the left lane at below the speed limit). So, on the plus side, it was nice to find out that my 1125R's speedometer is almost completely spot on. (Maybe it IS spot on and I just let off a little bit before checking my speedometer.) PS, speeding is morally wrong, nobody should do it, I should be happy that I got a 4mph reduction on the ticket instead of being hauled to jail, I should take my punishment for breaking the law, etc, etc. | ||

speeding is morally wrong hell no it's not morally wrong. It's illegal because the "man" has arbitrarily determined what's "safe" and "not safe"--or maybe it should be what's "profitable" or "not profitable." High-perf machines like a Sportbike have acceleration and braking capabilities which far exceed the cagers for which the laws are written. That and the fact that we are likely only going to hurt ourselves should something go wrong and it's really a joke we have to be held to the same limits as ordinary cagers. What's REALLY dangerous are speeding big rigs and buses. Those things can't stop and have the potential to do FAR more damage than a motorcycle doing 20+ over the "safe" speed limit. Unfair, but it will never change. PS, I concur with your speedo's accuracy. A couple years ago I got nailed, looked down and saw 88 MPH and sure enough that's what he had me clocked at. It was a weird moment as he was parked on side of the freeway and was just getting his bike into gear as I cruised past him. We made eye contact and I could tell by the anxious look on his face he was thinking "Is this guy going to slow down and stop or drop the hammer." It probably looked and sounded worse as I was entering the freeway from the nearest onramp which is a nice gentle, slightly banked 90 bend I like to take advantage of when traffic doesn't screw it up. Get a lawyer they will convert it to a improper equipment ticket or similar BS you will pay a bit more than the speeding ticket, but avoid points and insurance | ||

I know, Fresno--I just posted that so that people who feel the need to berate "evil" speeders wouldn't have to put forth any extra effort.  I agree completely with your statements. SprintST, my state has court supervision, which basically means that if a driver gets a moving violation, goes to court and asks for supervision, and then doesn't get another moving violation during the supervision period, the court doesn't report the ticket to the DMV and it doesn't go on insurance, etc. Technically drivers are eligible for court supervision only once a year, and usually the supervision period isn't very long--30-90 days, depending on the court. So worst case, I'll have to keep my nose clean for a few months to keep this off of my record. (Message edited by thefleshrocket on August 04, 2011) | ||

Its very accurate, used a GPS and on a Dyno, it will do 183mph with E.BR ECM and still not quite hitting the limiter. | ||

in NC we have Prayer For Judgment which is what you guys are talking about - get a PFJ and you cant screw up for 2 years and youre clear. Mess up within those two years and you get BOTH tickets. Plus they put a new law in place here in NC - if you get busted doing 15+ over there is no PFJ or improper equipment etc | ||

Well Sometimes you just need to check the speed on his old motorola. In my zr1 one night I saw a face light up behind the radar read out. I know the road no side roads etc straight as you can build a road. He was sitting facing the wrong way even if he has a buddy sitting the otherway he cant catch me. Do I stop or well 135 mph is trouble might as well go for it killed the lights but left under valance fogs on found 181 before i saw tail lights in the distance. When down to normal 75 or so I blended back in with that group of cars. Guess he thought no way am I chasing that never saw any blue lights. | ||

Moto-cops have the worse jobs, especially in summer. I can't imagine doing that for a living. Sure, it's fun at first but day after day after day, giving out tickets like that and every single person hating your guts, it's a thankless job! On those 90+ degree days I see those moto-cops sitting under a shade tree and beet-red from the heat! They're probably thinking: what was I thinking volunteering for this shit! LOL! I saw two today in Orange County Sheriff livery, hanging out at a corner of the city of Mission Viejo. Both Fat as hell. The "skinnier" of the two "lased" me even though I was going with the flow of traffic, with five other cars around me. I guess since I was in my sportscar, I was the fastest. Nope. Sorry officer. Not today! | ||

Aero Drag and my fatass defintley didn't help anything.. Amazingly the bike was stable at this speed. I got a little scared when i passed a huge blob on the side of the road at this speed. i slowed down to later realize that BLOB was a Cow laying next to the road... that could have definitely ruined my day... | ||

Arghh!!!! I just got a ticket for 28 over! We'll see what that does, but I can say that there are no get out of jail free cards here. Oh, well. Maybe my insurance co will send me to "I am an idiot and drive to fast class." Either my speedo is wrong, or more likely, the Officer did not pull the trigger fast enough. | ||

I wish my speedo was accurate. I KNOW for a fact mine is always 3 mph slower than what it says, but one day when I was riding at 48mph indicated (in a 45 zone) PMO (military police) pulled me over saying I was doing 55. He didn't give me a ticket, just to slow it down, and I ended up being a smartass saying "wow, if my speedo says 48 and I'm going 55, when I was doing 160 I was actually doing 167,sweet." he just laughed and let me go on my way | ||

Yea...accurate hell... Mine's off (reads fast) 3 or 3-1/2 mph according to radar..! Another down side to the 3+mph off...so is the odometer. Mike | ||

Just got my first ticket in 25 years a few weeks back. I was clocked at 92 in a 55 and sadly...it wasn't even on my 1125R. No...it was my FJR1300 that day. A mere $358.00 and 6 points. I'll be throwing myself at the mercy of the Dodge County courts in a few weeks. Already enrolled in the traffic safety school that will allow me to get rid of 3 of the points, so hopefully the judge may look kindly at that. | ||

I guess the three of us will have to go to the Defensive Driving. It may save me a few points. Fine will stick though, more than $300 for me, less for the Mrs., less yet for the kid. The real insult was that under hair color, the officer wrote bald. WTF? LJM | ||

I've done the supervison before, down in Texas. Called PBJ - probation before judgement - down there In Texas it's called deferred adjudication. It's essentially an admission of guilt with a probation period and the record is held permanently by the state unless you have your record expunged. (Message edited by philp on August 07, 2011) |
