Apologies if this has been posted before, I just happened to find it interesting. The pics are of an Aprilia but they are obviously similar enough engines to have similar attributes and issues. I thought this quite readily showed the advantages (my opinion) of a series VR over a shunt on both stator and VR temperatures.
The top two images are with the original shunt VR and the bottom two are with the Compufire. I believe that both images were taken under the same circumstances (i.e. after a short ride reaching the same operating temp and then left to idle). I know this is another thread on that dread topic, but this is posted more for info/confirmation of something a number of people had already surmised/known. It might help someone who is wavering make their mind up about whether to swap out the OEM VR or not.. |

Striking images. My only concern: I contacted Compufire directly and they told me specifically that they had NO products appropriate for use on the Buell 1125s. ac |

I'm certain they say that because they don't sell it with the connectors. I will say that I do notice that my Compufire feels cooler than the stock of FH0012 did. |

Way Cool! Forward Looking Infrared Radar (FLIR) is now in the hands of industry! An eng. friend used to work for them years ago in Oregon. Another friend uses FLIR for HVAC use. Nice to see some motorcycle usage. |

I have 1,000 + miles on my compufire unit, so far I like it, I also have had my stator re-wound by Custom Rewind. |

I ll have use one on a 1125r stock and see the heat path. the hot spot from the wiring goop blocking oil flow should be visible |

kenm123+ sounds like you have a handle on the stator problems being an oiling issue? Do you have any details? Are there ways to improve the oiling or at least things not to do? |

I believe he's refering to the strange "gloop" that you find under the stator that appears to serve no purpose other than possibly protecting the insulation from some "unfinished" parts on the casing. There's a theory that it interferes with oil flow in just the area you don't want that.. If you remove it, don't forget to deburr the casing.. |
