for the op.. if you are still having the temporary low voltage issues I would replace the low quality relay that is in the stator harness... it can give you the symptoms you are describing and make an inexperienced mechanic think you have a bad stator or VR.

Bextreme04, today I recovered my 2010CR from the dealer, it came from 30K km periodical maintenance, and to check, again, the voltage drops.

The first thing the tech told me about the voltage drops is that relay is OK.
So I assume that more sooner than later stator will die.
One symptom that drive me crazy is, the voltage stays at 14.4v until the first fan came into play at 78ºC, then the other one at 89ºC... the when the bike is stopped at idle the voltage drops, when it gets 5k rpm goes up again.

The voltage drops is directly associated to the start of the fans?

if your temps are high and you are at idle the relay disengages one leg of the stator and your voltage will drop... when it is cold the relay should not disengage and you should have a constant 14.4v or so. If you are getting low voltage while riding the relay is likely failing and not making a good enough connection to keep your battery charged. When I was getting low voltage at all times I checked the relay and it tested fine, I replaced it anyways because the stator voltage was normal and the relay is the most likely and cheapest alternative problem. Stuck in a $10 bosch relay from Pepboys and my volts shot right up and I have had no more problems. The stock harley relay is a pretty cheap, low quality unit and it just stops engaging eventually.

So where do you install the CE 605 SB Series type regulator - it sounds the most promising - by the horn - ? - lol

I would do what harley does on their big twins right out front. On an 1125 right by the oil cooler.

I'll look at that - tucking the wiring would be tricky, mounting could be easy though - will have to look at it and ask questions later - lol

You might want to get the dimensions for this CE 605 SB and mock up where you think you want to mount it...I did and could not find anywhere out of the way to mount it. I was talking to a gentleman there and he sent me the dimensional prints of these units, that was one of the determining factors in choosing the Compufire unit.

This is what I was toying around with before I placed the V/R in the original mounting location.
I machined this bracket myself and it actually would have worked pretty well, that's before I noticed how hot the bracket got that is bolted to the head that the fans mount to, it gets pretty hot!

Or maybe under the oil radiator?

What about a bracket coming off the left side cast K-bracket that holds the radiator pod on? (the side that DOESN"T have the exhaust pipes routed next to it. You could "float it" in the airspace that way, no?
