Can someone tell me what size bolts hold on the passenger foot peg assemblies? I never thought I'd need them back on the bike, but I have offered to take a passenger so they won't miss a memorial event for a rider that was killed by a drunk driver. I think I have the correct bolts, but they seem really tight. I don't want to force them and strip out my frame. I do have a good tap and die set. I can clean up the threads if necessary. I just want the correct bolts. I have the parts manual, but it doesn't say what size they are. Thanks! |

They are 8mm, if you have a ball Allen hex drive, that works the best and quickest. I've taken mine on and off so many times, with and without that tool. Have fun and be safe. |

OK, I think I have the correct bolts. They are 3/8 x 16 allen head screws. They take an 8mm hex wrench. They say HD....GRD8. There were only four of them in my bucket-o-bolts from the Buell. I guess I will have to run a tap through the holes. They don't want to go in easily at all. The threads might be corroded in the frame. I took the peg assemblies off the first day I had this bike, a couple of years ago. Thanks Mrrickbo! |

The bolts are NOT 8mm. They are 3/8-16 and use a 5/16 drive. An 8mm drive might work since the sizes are so close, but it's not correct. |

Thanks, Jim. I was just about to turn off my computer and install the pegs. I used my tap set to determine the threads were 3/8 x 16. I will try the 5/16 allen wrench. |

You sure you need to do the whole tap thing? A little bit of WD-40 or something to help lube and clean it off won't suffice? |

I got them on. The threads had crap in them. Maybe thread locking compound? They now have a little locktite on them. All is well. Thanks! BTW, it was a 5/16 allen, but the 8mm was VERY close. |

It's the same bolts that hold your front caliper on your fork, found that out when i took my passenger pegs off and was changing my front forks and saw they looked alike and at closer inspection saw they were the same |

they put a white anti-seize thread locking compound on them. plus being exposed for so long im sure didn't help either. |

Yet another example of why metric should have become universal. It drives me nuts trying to figure out what is metric and what is our offbeat system on different equipment. There was a time in the 70s when the change was going to be made, but nooooo as a nation we can't be logical. |

danny - funny you post that, yeah its just HD that still uses Standard, right? Get real, get your head out of your ass. Besides, its not THAT hard to figure out if something is metric or standard If you find it a chore then maybe anything mechanical is not for you |
